I can only hear sound when using headphones on my laptop but...

Check your Audio and Sound Properties in the device manager to make sure the volume is up, the laptop speakers are selected as the output device and that they are not on mute. Click Start/Control Panel or Start/Settings/Control Panel and look for Audio or Sound.

You can also get to the Audio or Sound properties by clicking on the megaphone at the bottom right near the time.

Try downloading and reinstalling the Audio drivers.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Acer Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Audio drivers.

Try the VLC Player. It comes with drivers and codec. I've seen it solve many sound and audio issues.

Try using VLC as your player. Go to www.google.com and in the search box type "download vlc" (without the quotes). Look for the Video Lan download from site www.videolan.org/vlc Download and install it. It downloads and installs in 3 minutes or so. It's a very fast player, smooth and it can play just about any type of dvd formats and media. It's totally FREE.

Maybe your speakers on the laptop are bad or the cable that connects it to the motherboard is loose. You will have to take the laptop apart to see. You can always buy a set of usb speakers that plug into your usb port. Try Tiger Direct at:

http://www.tigerdirect.com

When the site comes up type: laptop usb speakers in the search box and click GO. Sort the returned results by Price Low to High.

I cant instel audio drivers after format

After a fresh install of an operating system you have to set up your sound again
or a format of your hard drive

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question exclamation mark? ! or a red X Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it
if his does not fix the problem
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar for any further volume control settings you will need to right click on the volume icon system select adjust volume

click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speaker plug/outlets is usually at the back of the computer or if it's a laptop on the side
you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good with no dust as dust causes static electricity

clean your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer

Soun driver installed problem

Firstly check the volume is not low or muted on both windows and the speakers. In windows click the speaker icon in the bottom right of your screen, check the volume is turned up. Then click mixer or advanced and check that all volumes are turned up.
If using a laptop, check that the hotkey control for volume is on. You will see an audio icon on one of your ‘F’ keys, hold the Fn button located near the ctrl and press the volume function key.
Next open Device Manager from Control Panel and check there are no yellow exclamation marks on any drivers. If there are then you need a new driver.
If you are still having issues the sound card may be faulty, this is usually integrated into the motherboard. In a desktop PC you could buy a new PCI soundcard if you have a spare PCI slot in your machine.
You need to goto the manufacturers website, find their support section and there should be a list of drivers for your specific machine. Installing these should resolve your problem. I have a list of links to most manufacturers drivers on my website.
Hope this helps,

My earphones won't work when I plug them into the laptop. When I unplug them, the computer speaker plays sound just fine. And when I tested my earphones on my mp3 player, they worked also. I used them with...

Hi.

Check if sound from laptop speaker is working.

If sound from laptop speaker is not working, go to control panel, check first the audio properties, and ensure that the sound is not muted.

On Vista you have to double click on the playback device to get properties.

97846c5.jpg

audio properties can also be explored starting the mixer by clicking the audio icon located near to the clock. In the example below the audio is muted:

In control panel also check if there is an installed audio device going to device manager.

If the audio adapter is not present , or if the audio adapter has a yellow mark on top, then you will need to reinstall the audio adapter drivers. The drivers are available online, on the laptop manufacturer's website.

On HP, Acer and several other brand models there is also a bag that can affect the use of headphones only.

In that case when you plug in the headphones, you get no sound, or the sound is still reproducedd through the laptop speakers.
The trick to fix this bug is restarting the laptop with the headphones plugged in twice, then removing headphones and restarting again.

If all the above does not work there may be an hardware fault, like a broken contact in the audio jack soldering joints.

Regards.

Acer travelmate 230 won't boot

This sounds like it may be a Power controller problem, (circuit that controls battery charging etc...) To fix this the mainboard usually needs to be replaced, which will mean that you will have to send it to Acer to be "serviced".
