Sony CD device in Dell Dimension 521 won't function. Ok for last year and a half. Device driver info says (2) conflicting things- One that the best driver is properly installed and the other a Code 39 - they found the driver but Windows encountered a problem trying toi install it. Windows cannot install the driver because it may be corrupt or missing. I'm a beginner level user- I have no idea where to call/ ask to fix. Trying to set up nes printer - need NOW for pic porfolio to show client on Monday! Thanks for your time - ANy time! Kathy

Stuck in safe mode want reboot

Hello,
You may have a conflict with a device. Windows shows conflicts by highlighting a device in yellow or red in the "Device Manager". By using the Windows Device Manager, you can usually spot the conflicts quickly. Go to Control Panel, click "Sysytem and Security" and under "Security you'll see "Device manager". Click Device Manager and look for device conflicts. Again, they will be highlighted in yellow or red.
I hope this helps.

Dell dimension will not recognize a new hard drive or boot from windows disk. all conection seem OK

Hi tomcartp...

Go to Device Manager
To get to Device Manager you will:
Right click on My Computer>Properties>click the Hardware Tab>Device Manager.
After you are in Device Manager look for your MP3 player or Unit.
Here you should see no "Yellow" exclamation points.
If you do they they are telling you that you have a device conflict.
If you currnetly have your unit plugged in, you may notice the "unknown device" which would be your Player or Unit.
If you unit has an exclamation point by it, then you will need to click on it and delete it.
After you remove all devices with conflicts then click on refresh and search again for your MP3 player/Device.
The computer should install your device this time and solve your problem with connection of the MP3 player/Device.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up.

I need instructions on how to reinstall my sound device, I have no sound comeing out of my speaker and it is hooked up and turned on

  1. Bad software settings.
  2. Corrupt or missing sound drivers.
  3. Compatibility issues with the operating system and/or other hardware.
  4. Speaker related issues.
  5. Bad or missing sound card.
Windows XP
  1. Open the Control panel
  2. Open the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon.
  3. Verify the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" checkbox is checked. If this option is not available or is grayed out, skip to the next section of this document.
  4. If you were able to check this box, click ok and close out of this window and the Control Panel.
  5. Double-click the sound icon in the Systray and verify that all the sound volumes are mid-way or higher.
  1. Open the Windows Device Manager
  2. Verify there are no conflicts or errors listed anywhere in Device Manager. If conflicts exist skip down to conflicts section.
  3. Verify no other devices are listed. If other devices are listed skip down to other devices section.
  4. Verify that your "Sound, video and game controllers" category is listed, if not skip down to the missing sound card section.
  5. If no conflicts or other devices are listed and your sound card is listed with no conflicts, skip to the next section.
If you are unable to locate additional information about your issue or are unable to resolve the issue, follow the below steps.
  1. Under Sound, Video and game controllers highlight each device and press the delete key to remove the device.
  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. As the computer is booting the system will detect the sound card and any of it's devices and re-install those devices. If prompted for a location of drivers, try pointing it to your sound card CD and/or your Windows CD. If this does not work or is unable to locate the proper files, you will need to get the latest sound drivers from your sound card manufacturer.

Need ethenet controller for dell dimension 8250 PLEASE ANYONE

lets try a few things

open up device manager, right click on the other device, click properties, open up the drivers page, update driver, search my computer automatically next next next, does it find the driver? if not then go back Select driver manually - advanced, do you still have the files you downloaded? direct the manual search into the download folder / where you have extracted the files, might install that way.

Let me know how that goes.
Thanks
Ekse

Restore factory settings

If after hit control F11 nothing happen, probably you don't have a restore partition. Check that first.

If not you need to reformat your drive by reinstalling windows (you DO have that cd) and then reinstall the additional software that came with your 8200 (all that stuff is downloadable from dell website)

Sound is scratchy or doesn't work at all

What have you tried so far, specifically? From the description provided I would try two things. First, I would check on Dell's support site to see if there's a newer driver available for your sound card, as they update them fairly regularly in most cases. Assuming you have Windows XP, this link should get you to their audio driver section for your machine: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&osl=EN&catid=3&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=DIM_CEL_3000&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en Do you remember making any system changes from the time the sound worked last until it stopped? Maybe something was installed that caused a conflict with your sound card. Does everything appear ok in the Device Manager? (Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager) Nothing shows up with a red X or a yellow exclamation point?
