Gx620 boots up, then screen goes blank, reboot gives blank screen with cursor blinking. will boot with cd but still shuts down after a minute or two.

Remove the battery and open the case. Look inside the computer with a flashlight to see if any of the capacitors are busted or leaking from corrosion. The capacitors look like little battery towers, but they are not as tall as the AA or AAA batteries.

If the capacitors are bad, your computer goes bunkers.

Hi my ET1331G-03W emachines was working fine then just restarted, gave me the first screen with the e logo then a black screen with a blinking cursor on the top left corner and that's it. I tried to...

it sounds like the motherboard is going out because of the black screen

on my pc the motherboard shorted out the power supply & harddrive- I got my motherboard from ebay & also my harddrive they were reasonable

a second computer is always handy & if you decided to get a new one,you could rebuild the old one & keep it as a spare

Installed ubuntu 9.10 now can't boot XP. Black

Now that you have installed ubuntu which is linux did you make your pc able to do dual boot. It is possible you have overwriten some important files like master boot record while doing ubuntu installation. Most times blinking cursor means no hard drive or operating system. you can try poping in XP cd and try to do recovery if you have it. Also easiest would be if you could boot into safe mode and try to fix the issue by replacing missing or corrupt files.

I'm using windows xp home edition i got the virus

You had "Floppy disk seek failure" per your comment. Therefore this is not a problem with your hardisk. Your BIOS was configured boot up from Floppy that was why when you booted up it was looking for info from the Floppy, so if it could not find, it was sure to report to you. Just pop something out of your Floppy then you should be OK. Cheer.

Dell Dimension 4600 stalls during boot

Turn the computer's power on.
Immediately put the original Windows XP CD into the drive.
Tell the computer to boot from the CD (not from the hard-drive).
Does it start to boot from the CD?
Do you get as far as the "repair/install" boot-screen?
If so, your basic hardware is OK, and turn your computer off,
rather than choosing "repair" or "install".
Then, it's probably either the hard-drive that is failing,
or the installed copy of Windows XP is fuddle-duddle-ucked up, so that it cannot finish the "Windows startup" processing.

Hi,

Maybe your Hardisk drive is faulty already, try replacing the hardisk drive, bad thing, you also need to re-install all the softwares you needed.
