Sata hdd recognized intermittenly and installation sometimes sata hdd detected and sometimes lost halfway

Hello
Try disconnecting the hd from the motherboard, then reboot.

Shut down all power to pc unplug from wall, then reconnect hd,restart pc.

Be sure that in the bios settings your hd is set for autodetection,if there is a sata option just use auto.

Need to know where to hook up the card reader and 2nd HD. I have an ASUS M2N68-AM motherboard and I was looking for a schematic for this board to tell me where I can safely hook things up.

I assume you have an external card reader with a USB connector. If that's the case, you plug the device into an existing and available USB port, either on the front or back of your PC, or side or back of your notebook.
If it's an internal one, then you should find an available power connector from the power supply, and you will probably need to remove a plate in your PC case to install the device.
Regarding the second HD, any connector on the motherboard will usually only accept its own matching connector from the new device.
If your HD is SATA, then you probably need a second data cable, since the power supply comes with two SATA power cables.
It should be connected next to the existing and identical connector for your existing HD, assuming it's also SATA. It the latter it's an IDE type HD, then you should try to find a matching set of connectors (usually two), and attach the data cable to either one. It does not matter which one you choose in this case, since your PC is already booting from the IDE HD and will consider the second HD as additional storage, not as your boot drive.

Esata controller does not see my WD My Book Home Edition

If your WD id IDE
There is 2 ports for IDE master and slave you can try to swap to see it can recognize providing you set the correct jumper for M or S.

If your WD is SATA
There is more than one of SATA ports you can try to connect for every boot.
If it doesn't recognize, either bad board or bad WD

Selecting Boot Device

If you want to boot from the IDE HD drive then you should get into BIOS and set it as the first boot device, followed by your SATA drive and CD drive. That should do the trick.

Hope this helps,
Sai.

Boot up issues will not boot up from HD

IDE and SATA do not mix unless setup properly.
I would use the SATA one as main hard drive and set the other up as an external one on USB
Try resetting the BIOS to boot from CD
on ter lower part of boot screen will tel you the key to press to access the BIOS setup
Usually one of these keys
F2 CTRL+ESC or DEL
when in BIOS check and set to boot from CD

I want to install RHEL3.0 in SATA DeskStart HD using MSI SATA MB, but not detecting at OS installation time. HOW i can detect, Pls help me!!!!

You need to create a space for which to install Linux. That likely means resizing Windows. Partition Magic is a good Windows utility to accomplish this, although there is a Linux version called Gaprtedthat will do essentially the same thing. You download the Gparted live cd, burn to disk, and run it from your computer. You must go into "setup" and set your Bios to boot from CDROM before booting the Hard Drive. Once booted, follow the on screen instructions. Resize Windows, (but NOT before a thorough defrag of your Windows drive), and create a "blank space" for Linux. Afterward, boot your Linux distro, (RedHat 9 was a great distro, but a newer version of a Red Hat based distro would serve you better, sayCentOS or Fedora Core), and follow the online instructions. Good Luck!

Motherboard is not seeing the HD

generally its not a good idea to run both ide and sata drive at the same time.

if you are lucky in your bios it will have a emulate sata as pata/ide drives.

turn this on and be sure to select the ide drive with the OS on it as the master drive so it boots first.

also if you are doing this you will also need to change the jumpers on the sata drive as well to make it a slave and not a master otherwise you will have two master drives and it won't boot.

good luck
