340 battery/charge Secondhand player, new battery from Hong Kong via Ebay, when charged loses power within 24 hours even though not being used. Any advice would be appreciated. (New battery needed or player needs repairing.) Cheers Lazybones

buy a new battery,they dont last forever,it is old

considering that the phone was released in 2005 and is discontinued it is very likely the battery is in need of replacement. ebay would likely be your most inexpensive place to get a replacement. i generally buy any replacement batteries from hong kong... takes awhile to get them. but the cost is low. one thing tho. will the phone power up with the charger plugged in ? if it will not even do that it's time to get a new phone.

In my honest opinion I'd say a resounding YES. It sure sounds like you need a new battery. How long have you had it and how many times have you charged it? Forget the 1000 charges they say the batteries are good for. That's all theory. If you think you need a new one then I'd say it's time to get a new two. Yes, never buy just one, always carry a spare with you just in case. If you don't need it, use it in the camera next time and rotate the batteries and they will last much longer. With prices so cheap especially on Ebay the price of two is usually cheaper than one with freight. I'd be inclined to get the package deal. Most Hong Kong dealers (where I buy ALL my batteries) do a package of 2 batteries and a charger at terrific prices and no they aren't rubbish otherwise I wouldn't have been buying them for well over 8 years.

Depending on how old the battery is and what sort of life it's led it could well be due for a replacement. They are extremely cheap especially from Ebay and the newer batteries last much longer per shoot. I assume you have checked the output of the charger and that the lead from the charger to the camera are in good order. A friendly repair shop should take only a few minutes if you can't do it. It is possible for almost brand new batteries to die in action. So don't be surprised if you do need a new one. By the way, when buying from Ebay most of the Hong Kong dealers sell the batteries in pairs. This is the best way to buy them as everyone should carry a spare with them.
Don't be concerned about buying from Hong Kong I've bought literally thousands of items and found I've had more hassles with local sellers than those from Hong Kong. And the batteries are about a quarter what you pay for them at home. Plus they are not rejects or duds. Those days are just about over.

Power green LED light should come on, CHG green LED light should also come on showing the battery is being charged. Leave your unit in Suspend mode while charging it, DO NOT turn it completely off as "Shutting Down.." because it will not charge your battery.

I just purchased an almost new Archos 5 on eBay recently, and the first day I had it, happened to me that I left the unit off and charging on the Mini Dock with external AC power supply, after 13-14 hours the CHG light still wasn't blinking. Then I though maybe I have to leave the unit in Suspend mode rather than completely off, which I did, and in a matter of 3 hours it fully charged the battery.

Again, do not shut down completely the unit, leave it on Suspended mode, or even on, and connected it to your mini dock, after a while the screen will go blank the unit will go into Suspended mode by itself, and after 3 hours on external power supply or 8 hours via USB on PC should be completely charged and your CHG light should be blinking, indicating the battery is charged.

You may have a bad cell in your battery pack (hopefuly its not the powersupply). First remove the battery from the underside of the laptop and replace it. Try charging again.

Check the output of the powersupply with a multi meter and ensure it is providing the proper voltage.

If the PS is good then go on ebay and order a new battery from Hong Kong for cheap (thats what I did :)

sue it could be the way the battery responds to our power usa puts out 30 v more through the wall then the west
you could buy a american battery its possible that there batteries dont last as long

Seems you have burned out your charging circuit.This is common on these units & you need to do one of two things,Either send it back to Archos & they will fix FOC if under warranty or buy a external charger which are a bit difficult to get hold of @ the minute.Can get them from Hong Kong - ebay.

um.... im jut asking dose it flash green, orange or red? if it flashes green it is fine if it flashes orange its giving you a warning then if it flashes red that is when you charge it oui? but if it flashes red and you still cant charge it well i ont know what to tell you? oui, no, maybe? wll if i didn help sorry but i tried. sorry or your welcome which ever best fis your dicription. †
