Question about Acer AL1716 17" LCD Monitor

Open Question

ACER AL1716 17" LCD Monitor constantly resetting itself

I have an ACER AL1716 17" LCD Monitor that constantly keeps resetting itself when I turn it on. You will see the Acer Logo come on then the screen goes black and the logo comes back on and continues to repeat. It is almost like it keeps resetting itself. Any ideas? Capacitor in the power supply maybe?

SOURCE: monitor goes black

Sorry to have to tell you this, but this is common in LCD monitors. The reason that it is going black when it boots is for one of two reasons. You either have a bad power supply that powers your LCD or your LCD's backlight is blown. These can be repaired or you can purchase a new one. But if it goes black 9 times out of 10 is because the backlight is bad. These can be repaired!

SOURCE: Acer AL1716 Power problem?

i have experienced the same problem (power cycles on and off and on and off... nothing but Acer logo and black screen) on 2 Acer model 1706 A version 1706 Ab monitors both built in July 2006. Before the customer reported the 2nd monitor with the same problem, i sent the 1st one into Acer for warranty service (after testing in on 4 machines w/4 different video cards). They shipped it back with a paper saying the monitor was repaired. I returned the monitor to the customer and it exhibited the same symptoms (aka, not repaired). Could there have been a bad batch in July 2006? When I plug a new Acer AL1716 monitor into the same computers, I have no problems at all.

SOURCE: Acer AL1716 A Monitor does not start

Hello,

The problem on your monitor is a bad power supply. Because of heat buildup in LCD monitors parts called capacitors overheat and blow out. You can go to our web site at:
www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm and see what to look for. If you open your monitor and see blown capacitors that look like the pictures on our site then replace the bad ones and you should be back going. Email me if you have additional questions or if you need to get the capacitors, we carry them in stock.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Monitor turns on then turns off

You may have failing power supply, if you are going to do DIY repair, please read below.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

ACER X223W KEEPS SWITCHING ITSELF ON AND OFFI have tried another monitor to check its not the video card but its definatly the monitor

davidturn970, If your unit is not covered by ACER warranty you just might want to pay a visit to YOUTUBE to search for and view some video clips of typical "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair" so that you can LEARN what the most common components in the "switch-mode-power-supply" / INVERTER supply fail. From your description (on/off/on/off/on/off),I would suspect that the SMPS is cycling IN and OUT of SHUTDOWN mode, trying to save itself from what is commonly known as CATASTROPHIC failure! (smoke&fire). Also visit www.ccl-la.com/badcaps , www.lcdparts.net , www.badcaps.net for more information that will help you to make a decision of what to do with your LCD monitor. The more information you have the better. If you think this response was helpful, please rate it on fixya. 12fixlouie Bye for now.

My Acer X203HB monitor keeps turing itself off, then turning on and loading for about 5 seconds, then turning off again. it does it randomly and when it chooses! ive tried different screens and they work...

danny_gormle, Hi there. Your lcd display "switch-mode-power-supply" is mostlikely detecting a FAULT with itself or the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" ballast circuit (called the INVERTER) and is going into what is known as SHUTDOWN mode to try and save itself from having a catastrophic nonrecoverable failure and or FIRE and SMOKE. Get back to me after you visit YOUTUBE and search for video clips of LCD monitor Disassembly and or LCD repair! I'm sure you will find out the most common causes of your type of failure symptom. Your symptom will surely fit into the top 2 at least. After doing the YOUTUBE thing, check with Acer to see if they have a cash+old monitor swapout programme where they send you a REFURBISHED unit in return. It's that or have it refurbished locally or do repair yourself. With the words 'straight away' I suspect your from England, Canada, or The Land Down Under? I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com north of Chicago. Hope this helps you out a bit. please rate this response on fixya. Bye for now.

My monitor turns itself off when it wants and also turns on when it is not on any ideas

First, check all electrolytic capacitors and replace those which are blown or rounded. Next, if when it shuts down the green LED also turns off, then
on the controller PCB there's tiny transistor-like chip U406. Remove it from the board and try to turn the monitor on. That's reset circuit, you could live without it.

Acer x193w LCD Monitor repeatedly auto configures.

Here is a link to get the manual:

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/X193W%20(Qisda)%20user's%20manual.pdf

Starting on page 15 are the directions for the monitor controls. Page 17 indicates a "RESET" feture to Clear the Old-Statuses of "Auto-Configuration". There are quite a number of setting for this monitor.

I have my HP Pavilion hooked up to my new Acer al2216W monitor. The image comes up on the monitor but keeps flashing on and off constantly. How do I make the screen stay on?

Video Card problem. This can be caused by your onboard video card or a separate video card installed on your AGP or PCIE slot. Either way, try changing your display settings first. Set it at a lower or higher refresh rate and lower or higher bit and resolution settings.

Monitor will not turn off and keeps flashing the words Auto processing

it is not a bad rom. if it was a rom it would constantly act up but it only acts up upon overheating. The solution is difficult but if you open the monitor you can find all of the heatsinks take them of and replace them with bigger ones. or have a fan blowing on it at all time it is active i added bigger heatsinks to my emachine le1799 and it solved this problem of pulling up menu and changing setting by itself and the lack of the ability to turn power of.

What is wrong with my AL1711

This is possibly an inverter. When the monitor goes out, examine the LCD to see if you can see a faint image of the video being displayed. IF so, replace inverter. If not, possibly a bad LCD or video circuitry.
