Slow computer If you have a virus program installed, it is most likely is running a scan on your hard disk. It can slow down your computer especially if you have a large hard drive. After scanning is completed then the computer will be faster. To make your computer (hard disk) lean and mean, uninstall any programs you do not use. Also you need to maintain your hard disk by running Disk Cleanup this will remove old temp files and old compressed files etc. This will reduce the number of files the virus scanner has to scan. Plus running Defrag. this makes your files contiguous so the system can access files off the hard drive quicker because it does not work as hard.. Disk Cleanup and Defrag should be carried out at least once a month. If you have 512Mb of RAM installed then installing more RAM will speed up your computer. After installing your graphics card, you may need to disable the built-in graphics card in the BIOS for the new graphics card to work properly.
When a laptop tends to be performing very slow. There are different factors that could be contributing to the problem. It acting sluggishly tends to be quite annoying, frustrating, time consuming and not encouraging to use.
The cause could be from the RAM size, the RAM is what determines the speed of the laptop, if it is large, it will perform faster but if it is low, it will perform very slowly. RAM can be upgraded, and that involves you turning the laptop to the back and unscrewing it open, you will see a processor connected to the mother board, that is the RAM, check the size and try to replace it with a larger RAM.
Also, if there is a virus on the system, it can contribute to making the IBM perform slowly. Try to install AVG anti-virus free edition 2011 on the system. That will help you eraze the corrupted file and protectyour laptopfrom being exposed to any virus of any kind.
Ensure you are not running on windows vista or windows 7, try to ensure you are running on windows XP, as the IBMs mother board will act sluggishly if windows vista or windows 7 is the current operating system.
Be sure not to have too many load on the hard disc also. Try to ensure you are using an external hard disc for the laptop to save large files. As saving too many applications and folders on the hrd disc can make the laptop act very slow.
Would be glad to know if this information washelpful to you.
All the best.
Ok, there are many reasons why the games on your computer may be running slow.
First, if the game is a downloadable game or a game uploaded via a Disc purchased from a store than your computer may not meet the system requirements to run at the normal speed.
To correct this, you can try a few things that wont cost you anything.
Option One: 1. Click the Start Menu. 2. Click on ALL PROGRAMS 3. Select Accessories 4. Click System Tools 5. Click DISC CLEANUP
This will compress and remove any unnessary files such as temporary internet files and trash. This can open up a significantly amount of space on your computers hardrive which often allows games to run at a faster rate.
Option Two: 1. Click the Start Menu. 2. Click on ALL PROGRAMS 3. Select Accessories 4. Click System Tools 5. Click Disk Defragmenter
This will defragment and compress and files on your computer that are currently using more space than they need to. This can occassionally be a significant aid in speeding up a computer.
I advise you to complete both of these initial Options prior to using my next Option:
Option Three (COSTS MONEY):
1. You can purchase a new video card (Best Bet is to buy from the manufacture of the computer) 2. You can add RAM to your computer if it is a desktop. (Often, desktops can have more RAM added to them, or a second Processor/ Video Card in order to run faster)
Download a free optimiser and run it.
defrag the hard drive
maximise your ram check crucial.com download ram check to view recommended upgrades
right click my computer/ click manage/ click defrag/ while there check hard disk size and free disc space if less than 20% free then either get larger drive or remove unnecessary video, pictures music to flash drives or cd/dvd
Try defragmenting your hard drive, buying more ram, freeing up disc space, buying a faster processor, removing programs from startup or uninstalling unused programs. If you clarified your problem i could help more, has it always been slow or is it just now that it is slow. I could say in the auto problems area "car slow" and someone would tell me to buy a Ferrari, try making a better question and ill give a better answer.
Every folder in windows when "thumbnails" view is given saves file named "Thumbs.db" in which small photos are saved which for internal content, and also "desctop.ini" is saved in folder, sometimes some incorrect datas or very big ammount of information is saved in this file, try unhide hidden files and delete those two files manually, it will reset folder wiew and will become it faster. also you can create separate folder and move content in it and then delete old one but be careful dont use ctrl+a to mark all files, because it also copys those mentioned files and result will be same, you will still suffer from waiting folder to open, better to copy by drag and drop.
Make sure that you have at least 20% of the hard drive free, carry out a defrag and then a scandisk. Check that the processor fan is clear and running fast as a hot processor runs slower (self preservation)
Its not the room on your system that slows down the computer it is the running programs in the back ground that you dont know are running, there are many programs that will run during the normal operations of your system you weill be able to view the programs from the system comfiguration utility built in to Windows,
Step 1 is to click start go to RUN and type MSCONFIG and press enter.
Step 2 look at the tabs the tab that reads startup is the tab you will click.
Step 3 see the check marks next to the each of the lines of information, click on them one at a time to remove the check mark,
Now click apply and OK and the system will will ask you if you woiuld like to restart choose yes.
Your system will restart and when it come back up ut will let you know that the system comfiguration had been used there is a emty box on that screen and you will need to click to place the check mark there, do that and then click OK, this will speed thigs up.
