When standby light is blinking hold down ADVANCED SURROUND + ENTER, that will reset receiver. As soon as it resets hit the STANDBY/ON button, The receiver will shut off before the AMP ERR comes up. Then hold the TONE +STANDBY/ON button until the screen says reset. then press the TONE button, the screen will ask you to confirm, press TONE again. This will reset the controls and PROBLEM SOLVED. * the last couple steps need to be done fast, otherwise the AMP ERR will override the reset and you will have to start all back over*

app err Turns on then says amp err. - Fixya

When I turn on the unit it only stays on for 2 seconds then shuts off. I have unpluged it and pluged it back in. I checked speaker conections. There have been no electrial storms or surges that I know...

Since you have done the required test but the amp tends to go off into the standby position then it becomes important to check if this is the PROTECT MODE.
In most cases of the amp cut off soon after the ERROR amp detects there is a higher CURRENT drain than required in the design. So the error amp cuts off the relay / or does not switch over the relay so as to safeguard against higher current , possible burn outs.
In this case you need some technical help to check the outputs, You will need to check for shorts on the outputs, disconnect each of the channels, disconnect power to either channels till the error amp resets.
Finally with the amplifier removed off the power for some time, press on all the front panel buttons to ward off the residual voltage, then while the power is plugged on , keep the input selector/standby power pressed On, just in case to reset the processor if an error had crept in.
Also check if any speakers have shorted.

Try this, not sure if the same would work for ya.

Swich off the amplifier.
Prior to the process check the wires connecting the speakers are not creating a short circuit which is apparently putting the amplified into a standy mode.

1. Press the "A" "B" and power key all at the same time and hold on to it.
2. The amp will go into a reset mode and will keep blinking till it gives a normal "click" sound and the amp turns on.
3. this process would take about 2 - 3 minutes.
4. You may then release the buttons.
5. If it goes into a standby mode again and does not power on, or the standby keeps blinking, get assistance from the engineer.
6. Once it is on, you shall need to do the resetting of alll the configurations done earlier.

Hope it works, it costed me 3k to get the job done.

Receiver standby/on switch is flashing and cannot turn receiver back on

Try checking your speaker cables as one of them may be touching the case of the amp,or touching another cable, this can cause a short and cause the error message. The amp is protecting itself .
hope this helps.

Stand by button flashes but receiver wont turn on

I have vsx-d812 that has an AMP ERR in error menu. the troubleshooting was found to be Q696 and Q697 in the DC prot. area on "C" board, up near front toward diplay in center of c board. You can get access to error codes on VSX pioneer unit by pressing "enter" and "adv. surr." simultaneously for 2 sec. The display should show what error code you are experiencing. I believe there are three diff. error codes. 1) AMP ERR 2) OVERLOAD 3) BOAD ERR (not mistyped) I hope this helps pinpoint error code for ya.
