I have the same problem, love the camera, but can't understand all of the mechanical problems with it. Sometimes get a message saying lens cap on, and the camera is recording, I just can't see anything! Help!

My camera starting doing this about three years ago and so I left it in the cupboard and starting to use just the small movie option on my still camera. After getting out my digital movie camera last week to just record sound (as that was not the problem), I put it on a wooden floor a little too hard and amazingly it started taking movies again. I think it must be a mechanical problem.

Give it a few gentle knocks and see what happens. I am thrilled to have a working movie camera again, after so long.

See my post of before. I just knocked the camera on the floor by mistake and it miraculously started working again after years. Shows it must be mechanical and not related to software.

I would hope you have tried removing the battery, charging it and replacing it first already. The next thing I would try is to set the camera to factory default options.

Are you saying the lcd screen works but the pictures are just distorted or the screen doesn't work at all, even when you try to go into the menu. I think your "friend" is to blame here...your problems have nothing to do with changed settings.

Cannot record

if the lens cap auto closes, when it is on, try to tap slowly near the lens, very gently, and check again....repeat several times, it should work. the other options are taking it to qualified service tech, just beacuse its has very fine gears.....try it, reason for tapping is, the switch indicator is stuck, and gives wrong signal...dust paritcals could be the reason for that..

LENS CAP WARNING

JVC camcorder no picture on screen remove lens cap and unable to record problem is down to a faulty batch of ccd image sensors (thousands that Sony supplied) and if you phone the JVC servce centre (0845 3108000) and explain the problems you are experiencing its a good chance they will repair it free depending on model (I know because I have done just that and JVC are paying for it to be collected, repaired and returned totally free of charge, and mine was purchased in 2004. What have you got to lose the price of a phone call or about £70 to £90 to have it repaired yourself
Good luck syrups6

JVC Digital Video Camera GR-DVL107E

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode.
