Hello user...you are receiving this message at start-up because, in your bios system settings, "run fast diagnostic test" is enable...CPU fan is like a computer fan but attached with the cpu to cooled the cpu so that the cpu will function properly so as the computer...perhaps there is a problem with the fan, so its not running when the computer starts. This may harm your CPU, as a result may blow the circuits in the motherboard and eventually your computer will crash....for a technical advice, you may want to visit the nearest PC repair shop and change the cpu fan..
Really need more information, but my guess is dirty fan. If fan is blocked by dust, it may make noise and may run at high speed all the time because the CPU is overheating. If CPU gets hot enough, the laptop will shut itself down without warning. If dust is the problem, get some canned air. Before blowing into the air vents, try to spot where the CPU fan is and gently insert a toothpick to block the fan and prevent it from turning. A long blast of compressed air can spin the fan too fast and burn out its delicate bearings. Blow air from underneath and also from the side vent until air blows clear. In some bad cases of dust, the bottom or top cover must be removed to get it all out.
Verify that the person who replaced the fan correctly removed the old heatsink (thermal) compound and replaced it with new compound. Verify that the fan is connectect to power - you should hear it spin up intermittently during use, especially if you stop the Thinkpad in the Setup program when turning it on. (Pressing F2 or ENTER usually takes you into the setup program - press the key indicated on the Thinkpad screen on initial power on). The fan should be audible within 10 to 20 seconds roughly. If you don't hear the fan power-off the Thinkpad and check those two things. Caution: Excessive heat can permanently damage the notebook computer! Don't let it run for more than 60 seconds in SETUP without a working fan because the CPU will run at 100% load while in SETUP. (It's normal behaviour though because CPU Idling isn't implemented in the SETUP program)
While your computer is on, see if the fan attached to your video card is working. If it does, check the temperature inside your cpu. Overheating is one of the reason for logging out on window during online games. If possible additional cooler fan must be install inside the cpu. If that did not help suggest you replace your video card.
It could be a couple of issues, more than likely heat related.
Open the case and see if all of the fans inside the computer are spinning, especially the CPU Fan. If this has a seperate video card, you need to ensure that is spinning also,
check the fan first, then the heatsink on the CPU. Clean the computer with compress air, make sure all the dust bunnies are out, and the fan is in working order.
there should be 2 fans, 1 for the CPU and 1 for the power supply.
computer failure usually cause by overheat, which cause by the defective fan.
When the computer crashes.... does it just shut off with NO WARNING?
Is your PC BEEPER SPEAKER connected and if so, does it make a very soft alarm (like an ambulance) before it shuts off.
Do you know how to check CPU temp in BIOS? Next time it happens turn the PC back on and check the CPU TEMP in BIOS.
What I am getting at here is you may have a CPU OVERTEMP condition occuring. That is a very beefy card and will generate alot of heat, and even though it will have a fan and manifold mounted to port the hot air out, you will still see an increase in TEMP inside your case.
If this is the problem, you may want to add another CASE FAN (cheap option) or if you are really keen, get an aftermarket CPU COOLER and heatsink (Recommended for any High End build).
Based on your symptoms (and without detailed information) this would be my main suspect at the moment.
Try the following for a freezing or crashing computer: 1) General maintenance - open the computer case and blow out the dust with a can of compressed air (do not shake can). Aim air at CPU fan, power supply fan. 2) Turn on computer, does the CPU fan spin? It should 3) Turn off computer, remove memory modules and reinsert memory modules. Take care to make sure they are lined up correctly, they can only go in one way. Use the tabs to remove them. 4) Make a Memtest CD from www.memtest.org. Follow the instructions there to test the RAM for bad memory chips. 5) Make a knoppix live cd from www.knoppix.org. Follow the instructions there to boot into knoppix. Does it crash when running knoppix? If not it could be Windows that is the culprit.
