try to check your mobile if their is a compatibility with windows, go to the website of your phone and check any software that might download and can install into your computer..

The best way to connect is to use the Ethernet cable to connect each pc to each other or use a Ethernet hub to connect the two together.

uninstall then reinstall the drivers. make sure you unplug it after you uninstall and dont plug it back in till after you reinstall.

Well being as modems are essentially telephones you would have to have two seperate phone lines.  Have one computer call the other and use telnet in windows.
