Display Problem with Scenic P300 i845GV

Hi,
Fixing a friend's PC. Plugged in a new monitor (HP w1907v) to a Scenic P300 i845GV and although the resolution was initially good, I was called back a few weeks later when the resolution deteriorated (reason unknown) and dropped to the lowest resolution (4 colours). I couldn't improve this via the Control Panel in Windows XP Pro (it didn't give me the option), even though Windows was offering to do this automatically.
Therefore I used the monitor install disk (though I haven't needed this in the past with this screen). Again, this didn't help, so I uninstalled the monitor but in doing so, it seems the generic plug and play display driver was removed as well. When I plug in any monitor now, you see the Windows XP progress bar on bootup, but the screen goes blank when Windows has started (you can hear the XP startup chimes). I have tested this on 2 screens. Presumably I need to re-install the graphics/display driver - does anybody know what this is, or how I can do that with no display once XP has booted? I don't have the XP Recovery disc.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this, please?
Many thanks,
Andy

I should add that I have tried booting to Last Known Config - same blank screen issue. Also tried Safe Mode - hangs on System32\Drivers\Mup.sys
    Thanks,
    Andy

Thanks harrel. Any ideas how I do that if I don't have the XP Recovery disc? I can't find any hard drive recovery partition.
    Cheers,
    Andy

Just to update this issue, I've tried setting display to VGA in BIOS which still doesn't work. I'm therefore assuming it's a hardware issue - maybe a dead graphics card.
    Thanks for your help,
    Andy

The system boots normally but does not display on the monitor, what is the way forward

If it boots normally and there is no display on the monitor,it could be

1.Your Display card could have failed or the VGA cable from the display adapter is not connected properly to your monitor- In this case you will see a "no signal" message on your monitor.

2.If the monitor is powered on nothing appears, then your monitor most likely failed.

3.If the monitor's power on led light is not lit, then make sure your monitor is plugged in properly to the power source.

Desktop monitor shows lines when i put it on. These line prevent me from seeing the display well. What do i do?

This is normally an indication that this specific monitor cannot synchronize properly: the cause is the requested resolution is too high or the frequency specified is too high. In windows, specify a lower display resolution for your display adapter such as 800 X 600 and gradually change it to a higher resolution until the dsiplay becomes unacceptable to use. Hope it helps! Let me know how you go.

Disconnect the hardware device until prompted, reboot. Need more info. Or goto MS support site and download, then install driver.
