Question about Bose Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System (3-Piece)

2 Answers

Hi. my Bose companion 5 speakers are emitting a loud low buzzing noise when turned on. I always leave my PC on. It was off this morning so i turned it back on, noticing it had tripped the circuit switch on the power board. i've tried uplugging everything, all connections to it and re-booting the PC. I unplugged it completely and tried it in a different power source. it still emitts this noise, even when the input is not connected to anything. Can you please help? Nick

Main Bass speaker not working!!

Hello Adam Hi, it looks like your main IC amplifier inside the main bass box is bad, need to replace that IC. What are your plans, do you want to do the repair or have it service by a tech guy.

I have Bose Companion 2 Series ones and the left makes odd noises

> I turn the volume to a low it still has the odd noise
If there is any drive to the speaker at all (volume not turned off), the rattle is probably coming from a broken 'surround;' the part that keeps the cone centered around the outer edge.
Another point of failure is a structure called a 'spider' that is located between the voice coil and cone that ensures the voice coil stays centered.
If there is hum with the volume turned completely down, the amplifier driving the speakers (internal or external) has a failing filter in the power supply.

Another possibility: make sure both speakers are at least ten inches away from any router.

check if the volume control needs to be replaced. volume controls gets bad in due time coz of the carbon layer which gets thinner and thinner till it gets cut off

Loud hum when Bose Companion 3 Series II speakers are turned on.

I had the same problem for many months. I asked a sound & video professional and he suggested I move the subwoofer away from any power source. I had the subwoofer next to my UPS. Once separated and moved all wiring away from the power supply (about 12") the low bass hum was practically gone.

I use low wattage of transformer to my companion 5bose speaker now there is no sound what should i do.

Hi,

i suggest that you will stop using that low wattage transformer. Using that transformer might destroy your speaker. You should provide the right wattage which the speaker is requiring. Just look at the back of the speaker and you will the required wattage.

Bose companion 3

This is a common problem it seems with the electronics within the speaker set. (Companion 3 with sub and remote pod, aka, 'puck' = help desk support term)
I bought the multimedia speaker set in 2004 and had it replaced in 2005 because the 'puck' would not turn on (no orange light nor green light.) So I called help desk and they accepted the warranty exchange and I mailed the entire system (speakers and all) back to Bose in Markham, Ontario, Canada and they sent it back several weeks later. It worked 5-6 years after that as it is 2009 now, and it has the same problem again (no light on the puck). So I called help desk again and was ran through the same tests again (on/off, power plug off, various audio inputs, etc.) and the guy said to mail it in and they'd fix it as a non-warranty item. Cost: $85(Cdn) for repair + taxes, and $39 for remote pod.
So the sound that I got to enjoy from the Companion 3 system was amazing but electronic quality is very poor. For a set that cost above most other home user sets at FS and BB, it is substandard longevity.
I like Bose and have no complaints about the sound, but I will not buy another Bose multimedia package because at $350 (in 2004), I would expect it to outlast other sets. My friend bought a Logitech speaker set from another company in 2003 and is laughing at me as he realizes this is my second set and it hasn't even lasted as long as his own set.
