Question about Philips 9P5534C 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

9P5511 C102 I was cleaning the inside of the cabinet (mirror and tubes), just wiping them down with a clean dry cloth. I also wiped off the backside of the magnifier screen also. Everything is nice and clean, but now I have a light brown haze around the perimeter of the screen. More pronounced in the corners. Have I damaged the screen?

57h94 hd tv,need to clean picture tube

Hello, first you have to uplug the tv, then remove the speaker grill (I think that one just pulls off the front, but some models had 2 screws on each side on the rear edge of the cabinet) once the grill is removed you will see either 4 or 6 phillips head screws along the bottom of the screen frame, remove them and unplug the control panel plug (may be 2 plugs). when that is done raise the screen assembly straight upwards about 2or 3 inches and pull straight out and carefully set aside. Use a quality glass cleaner and a lint free towel's, spray the towel with the cleaner and wipe the lens of the 3 crt's that face the mirror and dry them with a clean towel. Then clean the mirror the same way, do not spray the mirror with the cleaner. when everything is clean, replace the screen by holding it against the front of the set but about 3 inches above the top, press it gently inward on the frame as you press it downward until it is flush with the top of the cabinet, check to make sure it is flush with the sides of the cabinet all the way down, if not re-raise the screen and lower it making sure that it's flush on both sides. Re-plug the control panel , and re-install the screws and the speaker cover,,,,,tks

How to clean the lense and screen in a projection TV.

When you replace your lamp or do work in your dlp or projection tv you should also clean the lenses and reflective surfaces to allow more light to pass through giving a sharper and brighter image.

Inspect your unit to see how the screen is attached. Most newer units have the screen attached at the bottom with screws. To access the screws you will need to remove the speaker grille. To remove the grille gently pull out on the edge of the grille at a corner until it pops loose. Continue around the perimeter until the grille is removed. Now you should be able to get to the screws.

Remove all the screws at the bottom of the screen and any other screws which obviously appear to be holding the screen on. Grasp the screen by both sides and lift it straight up. You may have to give it a tug to get it started. Once removed lay the screen on the carpet on it's front.

Using a lint free cloth, usually cloth diapers will work, and a glass cleaner with no ammonia, spray the cloth and using a circular motion clean the lenses and mirrors. Be careful when cleaning the lenses as they are plastic and will scratch. Never wipe them with a dry cloth or paper towels. Do not wipe them anymore than necessary but you may have to clean them several times if the lenses are very dirty. Clean them until you see no streaks or smears.

If your mirror is foil be very careful how much pressure you apply. If your mirror is glass cleaning will be no problem but be careful not to break it. Foil mirrors generally require several cleanings and a light touch.

Never spray any of the parts with the cleaner!!! Always spray the cloth away from the unit then wipe the parts to be cleaned in a circular pattern.

Remember to clean the rear of the screen being careful not to apply too much pressure. Do not get any liquid between the screen surfaces which are usually comprised of three parts. Less cleaner here is better.

When all surfaces shine and are free of dust, reassemble the unit and you should have a much better picture.

How & what do I use to clean the mirror

You can use glass cleaner to clean the mirror once a year (more for heavy smokers). Some models use the glass mirror, some use the Tin Foil like stuff on wood that scratches really easy, on those use a softer paper or cloth and spray it and wipe the spray off in one direction gently so you don't damage the fake mirror.
also do not clean the front screens (lentic and fresnel lens) you will create white/clear spots on them , damp a soft paper or cloth withwater
if you need to wipe the outside screen protector.
hope this helps

How to locate and clean the mirror on philips projection set

Remove upper back. The mirror is right there facing down at 45 degree angle to the three projector lenses and the screen. It is a silver polyester film laid over a backing board. I cleaned mine successfully with very soft paper towel (Bounty) and 70% alcohol. Rub gently in small circles until the alcohol is dry. If you just wipe the alcohol across the surface it will dry with a bad white haze. You have to rub it dry and then keep moving on until whole mirror is cleaned. This is only necessary if there are smokers in the house. Cleaning gets the nicotine film off the mirror. Best to not clean if possible.

Yellow screen

use a foaming glass cleaner on the screen such as plast-n- glass you can get it at . make sure the set is off, use a lint free absorbant cloth to wipe it dry. don't use paper towels they will scratch the screen. do not use on the inside screen, smoke tends to go to exposed surfaces. you can also clean the mirror but leave no streaks or they will show up in the picture.

Can I clean projection tubes myself?

First unplug set and remove back cover then you should see the three picture tubes . Using a soft cloth spray windex on the cloth then clean your lens and use the dry side to wipe away . Do not press hard as the lens are plastic . If you cannot see the tubes thru the back side you must enter thru the front . Would need to know make and model # of your set located on the if you need more assistance . If you are a smoker this could very well improve your picture . Good luck

Rear projection clean mirror

You can get to it by removing the back panel. You also have to kind of lay down beside it and kind of twist around with your head to see what your doing. But it can be done. It helps if you take the two screw out that keeps the shelf that's around the picture tube assemblies it gives you a little more room. Don't use windex though it will streak it up bad. Just a damp soft cloth and then dry it good. Makes a big difference in picture quality.
