SOURCE: Whilrpool Self Cleaning Range Door won't unlock

try this 1. Verify error code by pressing and holding CANCEL/OFF key for 5 seconds.
Momentarily (less than 5 sec.) press CANCEL key again to remove error code
display.
2. Press and hold any key for 1 minute until F2 E0 code is displayed.
3. Cancel F2 E0 error code.
4. Program and start the clean mode. Observe to see if door locks. If it does not,
inspect the locking mechanism from the solenoid to the latch pawl and door to
find the cause of the problem. If the door is not locking, then 1 minute from the
start of clean, the F5 E1 code will again be displayed. Steps 1 through 3 will
have to be repeated before another clean can be started.
5. Once any mechanical problems with the latch mechanism have been corrected,
program and start a clean cycle (after, if necessary, clearing F5 E1 error code)
to ensure proper operation of the door lock. Immediately cancel the clean mode to observe proper operation of door unlock

SOURCE: Oven won't lock and self clean.

Shut off the oven for at least a minute and turn it on, set the clock, and it worked. I had tried a short power cycle before and it didn't fix it. The extended power cycle did the trick.

SOURCE: Wolf oven self-clean error 01

Well, ours is working now. We called Wolf, they said the Error 01 indicated a problem with the latching mechanism (that locks the oven during self clean).

We called the local repair outfit (they've been here several times before working on this range), they ordered a latch mechanism and arrived today to install it. The tech this time had worked at an electronic company that I also worked for about 10 years ago (I'm an electrical engineer). So we had a good time talking about the old days and working on the range - I'm always curious about such things. We removed the latching mechanism - its an assembly with a motor and a couple of switches that are used to start and stop the motor. We tested the switches and motor using a meter and power cord. Seemed to be OK. The next thing would be the control board - which we had replaced about 3 years ago - under warranty. Before removing the control board we reinstalled the latch mechanism - and, of course, everything worked fine.

We were both a little dismayed about the quality of the assembly of the range - the wiring looks more like a rat's nest than the tidy routing that we'd like to see.

So, bottom line, neither of us knows what the problem was. Could have been a food particle lodged in the switching mechanism, an intermittent connection or ???.

One thing I noticed as we checked out both ovens: We put the small oven (the one that was having problems) in self clean for a couple of minutes - was OK. Then we turned it off and turned the larger oven to clean mode - when we did that, "OPP" appeared on the display. The tech said that was because the latch of the smaller oven was not in its stop position yet. We gave it a few more seconds then tried clean mode on the other oven and it was fine. I mention that because OPP appeared on the small oven once or twice when we (my wife and I) were initially trying to figure out what the problem was. There's probably a hint in there somewhere as to what the real problem was.

At any rate, its working again ($115 later) but I'm not real confident that it will continue. Next time, I'll open it up myself (not recommended). <g>.

SOURCE: Viking range self cleaning not working - door locked

This is a more common problem than revealed by Viking.
Heres how I an "amature" fixed it.
Top center of many viking ovens have slots. With a small flashlight look into the center slots. "Its HARD to see" Look for something
shiney thats the latch/hook everything else will be dark.
I used a shish ka bab skwer. You need something like that or maybe an ice pick. Knives screwdrivers and things like that will
damage the face of the oven and then after opeining it you will forever feel bad about marring that very expensive unit.
Take the pick and with the flashlight guide it to the shiney part.
Once touching push to the LEFT. Keep trying as the pick will slip
many times. The latch should have no resistance if you can get on it.
Once open you can try and reset the hook to its open position.
Mine would not reset and prevented the door from closing.
This is now another fix. To keep the hook held to the open position. E mail me for how I jury rigged this part.
Mexvillas@aol.com
I have the hook held open now and will never be able to use the self clean function again. But thats better for me than a open wallet fix for the repair man and then wonder when it will happen again. To repeat. This is a known problem with Viking ovens.

Cheers

I cant get my viking 30inch electric range to self clean. it has a self clean spot on the knob and on the temperature knob but when both in place nothing happens.

You might need to lock the oven door to get the self clean to go on. My stove had a lever which locked the oven door when you pushed it sideways. It was in the middle above the oven door, in the gap... Hope this helps!
