Sounds like possibly a clogged heater core. If you can see the hoses in the engine compartment ( passenger side, they run through the fire wall ), drain your coolant, remove the hoses and try to flush it out with a garden hose also make sure that everything is off of the passenger side floor, if the core is bad or leaking, it will most likely go there.

Overheating

start car with cap off let it run and see if air bubbles come out or if the prestone shoots up , if there is no heat coming out in the car possible heater core plugged have to clean it out or thermostat stuck as well cap leaks thats why no heat no pressure or leaking system check for prestone loss

Changed anti freeze from Dexcool to prestone will that help prevent blown head caskets?

what i discovered is if the dexcool is mixed properly and changed before it gets sludgy it does not damage gaskets however switching to prestone green can damage the water pump and oxidize the radiator and heater core, the systems are built for certain anti freeze and despite what some mechanics say it is not a good idea to change it. it is also a good idea to replace the thermostat with a fail safe thermostat, when they go bad they get stuck open not closed.

Extreme delay getting heat

it could be the blower is not working in all speeds or your prestone is low,or has to be changed or the thermostat has to be changed.

mcdevito75 here, Waterpump will not cause over heating unless it is leaking prestone., First make sure you have radiator full of prestone, mixture of prestone on the prestone package, usually 50% prestone and 50% percent water. Most auto parts stores have a gauge you can buy to check the prestone mixture. Overheating can be a faulty thermostat, if yours has not been changed in 2 years, chaange it to a 180 degree thermostat. Also make sure all belts on the engine are adjusted, power steering, alternator, etc as a general rule 1/2 inch play in each belt connected between each pully.

Heater not working

if you got heat when its running and almost nothing iddling the heater core inside the car has rectriction idle circulation not enough prestone pass thrue the radiator because of scale when our driving way more circulation more prestone go thrue ¸=more heat you need to flush the radiator inside the car normally i put a radiator flush leave it running longer then what they say go for a drive remove the heater core hose be carefull not to break the pipe use garden hose pass hose water pressure o n both side do it a few time each side flush all the prestone add new prestone you shoul have way more heat good luck p.s some shop might tell you change the heater core that perfect but very big money do it right its cheap and gonna work pierre
