Question about SINGER 7470 Sewing Machine
The top thread is not catching the bobbin thread. I purchased this machine a month and half ago. Use it and made a couple of pj's. I didn't sew for a week or two and as of last night the machine won't sew. The nearest Singer Warranty Center near me won't answer their phone or return calls. I contact another over an hour away, The technician tells me it may be my timing and he will need my sewing machine for a week before I get it back. Is this timing something I can do myself? The needle is hitting the plate under the bobbin when I remove the bobbin case as the manuel says to clean that ares. Please Help!!! This should not happen each tiime I am ready to sew new projects.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Sounds like your machine is off timing, When the machine is properly timed, you should see the hook passing behind the eye of the needle when the needle is on it's upward stroke. If this is not correct the machine will not pick up the bobbin thread. You may have to take it in for adjusting, unless your a bit machnical.

Yes, try looking very closely at the needle assembly. Make sure the new needle is loaded with the flat side against the arm that holds it. If the machine is only a few months old, it's probably under warrantee. There should be a number to call on the serial plate. If all else, call the store you purchased it from. Sometimes they have sales people who are well versed with their equipment and can help you but I bet the needle is facing the wrong direction when you replaced it. Find any broken pieces of needle and remove them too. Look with a flashlight. I hope this helps!
