Thanks so much very helpful, but it was not the problem. I took the relay off and they checked it at the store for me it was ok. The compressor was bad so thankful it was still under warranty. So thanks so much what a great site.... they are coming today to replace it. you saved me having to pay for a service call.

Most likely you have a bad start relay on the compressor. when looking at comp on the left side you will see a little square relay with 2-3 wires going to it. the pt# you need is 8201786 and can be purhased online or at a local appliance parts house this is an easy repair and the part should cost you less than 70 dollars. thx peyton

i didnt mention this but since you just moved it tis possible the relay just came loose from the compressor try taking it off and reseating it. while you have it off shake it to see if there is alot of rattling inside that is sure sign of bad relay.peyton

Help! Our KitchenAid side by side stopped cooling today..both freezer and refrig! There is a clicking sound every few minutes...Any ideas?

You will need to pull the refrig out and remove the lower panel . On the compressor , is a square box ( overload/relay ) . This piece has a plug with 2 or 3 wires , going to it . The part number for the part is 8201786 , and is easily replaceable . Compressors going out , is extremely rare .

MY KITCHEN AID SIDE BY SIDE FRIDGE IS NOT COOLING. tHE COMPRESSOR IS HOT AND APPEARS TO BE RUNNING. Please help. Frank

1.The fan motor at the compressor must be running to keep the compressor cool.2. If you hear a clicking sound at the compressor, that is a indication of a bad compressor start relay that must be replaced.

KitchenAid Not cooling

The start relay and overload are the parts the 2 wires go to on the compressor.

If this doesn't work your may try a device with a start capacitor 2 wired in and 3 wires on to compressor and yes they have to be on specific terminals.

Then if this doesn't work its compressor tiem or replace the refg.

To the person who hears a clicking sound you are correct, the compressor is trying to start but is not starting and that causes the overload to trip (click) wait a short time and it all happens again. Either the start relay is bad or the compressor is locked up. Less than 1 year old should be in warranty. If you want to try to check the relay you will need to unplug it from the side of the compressor. Once removed try to shake it and if you hear a rattle noise the relay is bad. To test the compressor you would need a test tool or be very experienced to perform accurate test.
