Question about Epson PictureMate (C11C556001) InkJet Photo Printer
It can be various reasons like..
Didn't remove protective tape on cartridge.
Didn't properly seat cartridge.
Contacts on carriage need to be cleaned.
You can clean them by cleaning the contacts on the old "empty" cartridges, then installing/removing them a few times.

I just started calling Epson's customer service line every time. They always offered to FEDEX new ink. I got tired of waiting for it to come and began returning bad cartridges to office depot where I had bought it and found out that they will take it back if it doesn't work. Now I've decided that some (a lot) of Epson's ink cartridges for the RX580 are bad and that I just have to keep trying until I get ink cartridges that work. I had tried the qtip cleaning, checking the ink/sensor connection, and making sure I had them snapped in tight. I've finally figured out it IS the ink. BTW, I always use the ink Epson reccomends, so it is definately that many of their cartridges are faulty. It's a pain to have to return them but as long as I can return and replace them and eventually have a machine that will print when I need it to, I can live with that.

It appears to be that your printer is malfunctioning and require service. Please call Epson for your warranty verification or you may want to send your printer to nearest service center in your area.

Just had this happen to me. Turned it off, turned it back on... nothing. In/out with the cartridge several times and when I blew on the contacts of the printer (where the little microchio on the cartridge touches) it finally worked. Did the blowing on the contacts help? Maybe, but more likely is that the it was just repeatedly trying to d oit before the machine figured it out.

please use only recommended cartridges found either on the upper portion of your printer or in the printer manuals.... take note of the code.
