Maybe your windows has a damaged file or corrupt try to reinstalling your windows. ^^

I purchase a used computer that was a part of a company domain. I removed it from the domain. I cannot login.


When you removed the computer form the domain, you can no longer login as a domain user. You need to know the login credentials of a local user of that machine. (Administrator, is almost always a username, ans you would need to know the password of that user. Thanks!

Cause of user profile not loading


The question is:

What causes a user profile not to be loaded in Windows domain based network?

the answer is:
there are probably 3 broad reasons for this,
1. the user corrupted their profile somehow, such as shutting down without logging off (hard power off)
2. the connection to the domain was lost ungracefully, and offline information was not copied entirely, causing a mismatch of some encrypted profile data, (effectingly corrupting again) and preventing the logon.
3. an unknown event took place between the last time the user sucessfully logged on, and this time where the profile is now not loading. this could be hardware related (faulty Hard disk), RAM parity errors( bad memory), a change to the user profile SID details on the domain controller or other domain change.

Usually the cause is not so much a problem, unless it consistantly reoccurs.

Fixing it however, in XP is fairly easy.
with an account with domain admin rights, just navigate to the UNC path "\\computername\c$\documents and settings" - note the name of the folder/user affected, and just .old their profile folder.
example, username is Philip. - you see in their c:\documents and settings\ folder the folder called Philip, rename it to philip.old or something else.

You have to ensure this is done while the user is logged off, as files in this folder will be in use otherwise. potentially useful to reboot the computer before navigating to the profile folder.

Hi,

The built-in Administrator account is hidden from Welcome Screen when a user account with Administrator privileges exists and enabled. In Windows XP Home Edition, you can login as built-in Administrator in Safe Mode only. For XP Professional, press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice at the Welcome Screen and input your Administrator password in the classic logon window that appears.
To have the Administrator account displayed in the Welcome Screen, try one of these methods:
Method 1: Using TweakUI Power Toy for Windows XP Download TweakUI from here: v2.00 for Windows XP | v2.10 for XP SP1 and above
Open TweakUI and click "Logon" option in the left pane. Put a checkmark against the option "Show Administrator on Welcome Screen". Click OK to close TweakUI. Logoff and see if Welcome Screen lists Administrator login. Changes are immediate and you can use the Winkey + L to switch back to Welcome Screen to see Administrator account is listed.
Use this procedure to hide/unhide any user account from the Welcome Screen. Please remember, you can still login to a hidden account using CTRL+ALT+DEL classic logon method, but cannot Fast User Switch to a hidden user account.
Method 2 - Manual registry edit
  • Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
  • Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ SpecialAccounts \ UserList
  • Use the File, Export option to backup the key
  • Create a new DWORD Value named Administrator
  • Double-click Administrator, and set 1 as its data
  • Exit the Registry Editor.
For Windows XP Home Edition While you can configure Windows XP Home Edition to show Administrator account in the Welcome Screen, you cannot login as Administrator in Normal mode. Visit the following link for more information:

Hey!
If your computer is a part of a business network, you should contact the network administrator so he/she would setup or reconfigure your user account correctly.

If it's a home computer, you'll have to log on as Administrator to unlock your account. To do so:
  1. Click Start -> Log off (user name).
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice.
  3. Type Administrator in the user name and fill in the Administrator account's password. Leave blank if there isn't any.
  4. Once logged in, Click Start -> Run...
  5. Type in: LUSRMGR.MSC and click OK.
  6. Double-click on Users folder.
  7. Double-click on your locked user account.
  8. Uncheck "Account is disabled" and click OK.
  9. Close "Local Users and Groups" window.
  10. Click Start -> Log off Administrator.
  11. Login to your user account!
Note: If you don't have access to the Administrator account (because you don't have the password), please do tell and I'll give you the instructions on how to reset it.

Ok after assiging a workgroup to the domain, plz make sure u gpupdate ur system , certain times it does take 60mins for changes to take effect.

Hello,

This is usually a computer trust issue, if the computer was previously used to logon to the network and has been rebuilt or had in problems it can have trust issues. First way would be to change the computer name and add the DNS Prefix for your domain. ex desktop.abc.com to desktop1.abc.com. when prompted it is best to use the domain admin or equivalent to make the change and then reboot.

Windows cannot connect domain either domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable or because your computer was not found


The resolution and workaround to solve the error is as below.
  1. Login to the Windows 2003 domain controller, and delete the computer account object from the Active Directory by using Microsoft Management Console (MMC) which you can always access from “Manage Your Server”.
  2. Log-in to the PC workstation as local administrator. If you cannot logon as local administrator, try to unplug the network cable and logon to the computer by using a domain administrator user that used to logon on the PC before, by using cached logon credentials feature.
  3. Go to Control Panel, then click on System icon, then go to Computer Name tab.
  4. Unjoin the computer from the domain by clicking on “Change”. You should see that Domain button is now selected. Remember your domain name in the text box. Select (Click) on “Workgroup” to remove the computer from the domain, and put any workgroup name in the text box (e.g. workgroup).
  5. Click OK to exit.
  6. Restart the computer (optional)
  7. Go back to the Control Panel, launch System properties and then go to Computer Name tab, and click on “Change”.
  8. Rejoin the domain by uncheck the Workgroup button and select (check) Domain button, and put in the domain name noted above into the text box.
  9. Click OK to exit.
  10. Reboot the PC.
This should solve the unable to logon to domain error, without changing or losing the user profiles on AD.
