Lcd monitor working fine but the adjustment screen apears on my monitor in a small square enveloppe how can i restore system thanks in advanceDewulf Jan

I assume by "adjustment screen" you mean the OSD (On Screen Display). This is the box where the menus for adjusting the screen appear. If I'm correct, that means you have pushed the "menu" button on your LCD and need to push it again to turn the OSD off. If pushing it again does not solve the problem I would say it's time to have the LCD repaired. In many, but not all, that OSD goes off on it's own after a bit.

When i press the power button to turn off monitor, i get a power button lockout message. how do i unlock the power button

I did not see anything regarding to the Power locked out function, may be it's time to call HP. Please post back what you find out from HP.
I look at HP WEBSITE: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01632269&tmp_track_link=ot_recdoc/c01643091/en_us/c01632269/loc:1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3770762

Locking OSD settings
When the OSD is locked, settings cannot be changed in the OSD menu. The OSD functionality is enabled or disabled by pressing the Menu button and holding it for 10 seconds. Upon disabling the OSD, an OSD Lock-out message is displayed for 10 seconds. When the OSD is locked and an OSD menu button is pressed, the OSD Lock-out message is displayed for an additional 10 seconds. When the OSD is locked, pressing the OSD menu button for 10 seconds unlocks the OSD and displays the main menu. Identifying monitor conditions
Special messages display on the monitor screen for the following monitor conditions:
  • Input Signal Out of Range : Indicates the monitor does not support the input signal because the resolution and/or refresh rate are set higher than the monitor supports. Recommended refresh rates are as follows:
    • For the w1858 monitor: 1366 x 768 @ 60 Hz.
    • For the w2338h monitor: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz.
  • Monitor Going to Sleep : Indicates the screen display is entering a sleep mode.
  • Check Video Cable : Indicates a video input cable is not properly connected to the computer or monitor.
  • OSD Lock-out : When the OSD is locked, the warning message OSD Lock displays for 10 seconds.
  • No Input Signal : Indicates the monitor is not receiving a video signal from the computer on the monitor video input connector. Check whether the computer or input signal source is off or in the power-save mode.
  • Auto Adjustment in Progress : Indicates the auto-adjustment function is active and in process.

I can't see the whole screen on the monitor - I have a W1943T - how do I adjust the width?

This page has manuals and drivers for your monitor:

http://www.lge.com/uk/support/product/support-product-profile.jsp?customerModelCode=W1943T-PF&initialTab=documents&targetPage=support-product-profile#

The manual explains how to use the buttons on the monitor itself to make adjustments. A description of this "on screen display" (OSD) starts on page A10 of this manual. Page A14 shows you how to move the image vertically or horizontally.

You may need to adjust the resolution. Higher resolutions will make the images on your screen smaller, so more likely to "fit."

Also, if you are just using generic drivers, you may see some improvement by installing the correct drivers that are specific to your monitor.

OSD on m onitor

sounds like bad capacitors on the power pack, is this an older monitor ? could use some more info on age and type of monitors and the video card used.
OSD is On Screen Display and it is for adjusting screen functions like color brightness etc.
different screen resolutions can cause a monitor to shut down.

There are buttons on the front of the monitor. Why

The first button is the E-power button for the Auto preset function. With it you can select presets like text, standard, graphics etc. depending on your use.
When you select any button the options are displayed at the bottom of the window. These tell you what button to press to select the next option.
For example press --menu-- > -- > -- menu , to adjust the horizontal and vertical position.

To turn off the monitor you must press and hold the --circle with the line -- button for a couple of seconds.
