HP tx1009AU not booting up

Don't know whether this the right place to post my query or not? Still....

My hp tx1009au laptop stopped booting after a year's warranty. I have visited many of the forum's and it seems a world wide problem with HP tablet machines. I did send my laptop to HP service center they said i need to replace my motherboard. Want to know the exact price of HP motherboards.

I don't know HP's cost, of replacing this motherboard. A qualified, authorized, HP repair shop, will probably charge $300 to $400 dollars. To include the new motherboard, and labor to replace.

Too bad that you don't want to try it. A new motherboard may be $180 off of the internet.
Labor cost? 0 (But read on. This may not be advisable)

Quick search on Ebay for Pavilion tx1000 series motherboard,

Your Pavilion tx1009AU, is part of the Pavilion tx1000 Series. All the same motherboards. and the PDF Maintenance and Service Guide, (It's a Service Manual. Don't let the
-> 'Guide' fool you!)

Should the above direct link for the PDF Maintenance and Service Guide, not work for you,
here is, and the download page for it,

On this page, go down to the first manual listed ->
HP tx1000 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide <- in blue. (Size: 3.48MB) Click on it.
You may not see anything happening. Give it 20 seconds at least, then the first page should pop up. Let it fully download before looking through it.

Tells you how to properly disassemble the laptop, and reassemble it. Gives you the part numbers, gives you the Specifications, and how to replace individual parts. Shows illustrations also.
Service Manual.

Just thought, I would pass this information on to you. Food for thought.

ONE more item!

The reason a LOT of laptops are being recalled, due to motherboard problems, stems from the DC Power Jack, and the way it's mounted to the motherboard. (Or having warranty work done)

The DC Power Jack, is that little round opening, where you plug the AC adapter, (Charger) into the laptop.
It is a small rectangular piece of plastic, that has a round metal sleeve in it, and a metal post in the middle.
This, is an example of an average DC Power Jack,

These jack's break. The middle pin can break in it's mount. Those flat metal pins you see sticking up, from the link above, go down into the motherboard. (The photo shows the jack upside down, in relation to how it sits on the motherboard)

These flat pins are soldered to the backside, of the motherboard. The solder joints can break.

For those laptops recalled due to a motherboard problem, it's due to the design of the motherboard, and how the DC Power Jack is attached.

Crude example:
Think of the laptop motherboard, as a 1 foot square. (As you can see, it isn't)
Now attach a 2 inch square to one side of this.
The 2 inch square is actually part of the motherboard. It looks like a 'Peninsula', sticking off of the main body of the motherboard.

Now attach the DC Power Jack, to this 2 inch square.

With the 'Charger' plugged into the laptop, the charger plug can get bumped. This can move the DC Power Jack enough, that the 'Peninsula' can break off, of the main body of the motherboard.

This 'Peninsula' can also break off, just due to everyday usage. Plugging the charger in, and taking it back out.

There are very flat, thin, copper strips on a motherboard, called 'Traces'. Think of them as very flat thin wires.
The traces, coming across the main body of the motherboard, to the 'Peninsula', can become stretched, and break.

This, results in No power coming from the 'Charger'. Nothing to charge the battery, nothing to keep the laptop working!

Bad motherboard design. Not the laptop manufacturers fault, (In this case HP), but the fault of the designer, that designed the motherboard.

So even if you do replace the motherboard, there's no guarantee this issue won't happen again.

Sorry this was so long and drawn out.

Keys have fallen off my hp laptop

If keys have fallen of your hp laptop, you should be able to reattach them as long as there are no broken parts like hinge clips, or the back of the key cap, if there are broken, stop right there, don't do anything else as they will not go on, places like have a variety of hp laptop keys, and also installation guide, you may want to contact them for your laptop.

I have an HP Compaq nc8230 when I boot my laptop there will always insert smart card reader, I must first wait one hour then starts normally

Hi, once the computer is booted to windows successfully go to the "Device Manager" find the "Smart Card" Device and then right click on the device. Click on the "properties" and click on the "Drivers" tab. Then click "Disable" disable the Hardware. Click on "OK" and "APPLY". Restart the computer. This will resolve the issue.

It's a Weird Issue: You can try pressing the Notebook under the two "ALT" buttons(Don't press the 'ALT' buttons), this is required to be done whenever you are booting.

Just bought a new laptop but i don t know where to find my product key for microsoft world

I am not sure whether you have purchase the full version or not. Normally HP ships trial version with the notebooks. i.e. Microsoft office 2007.

If you have purchase the full version while purchasing the notebook the you must have got the HP shopping envelope (If purchased from The product key would be included in the envelope.

And if it is a trial version the you may need to purchase the full version from Microsoft.

Please get back if you have any queries.

Hp pavilion dv2000 lights switch on but boot or

Thank you for your query

Please try the folowing

1) Remove ALL wires and then press and hold the power button in for approx 20 seconds

2) Plug everything back in and then rerty

This may sort the issue out however from what you are descrbing, if there is no boot or display it is highly likely the motherboard and/or the CPU is faulty

I would recommend that you book the PC into a reputable PC repair shop if the above does not work

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again

Hp dv6000 don´t start

Can you please be more specific as to whether it is a
1) power issue
2) No POST
3) NO Boot
4) No video

Power issue - the system does not turn on at all. In this case check the AC adapter and the battery.

No POST - You may have to check the Memory, Hard drive and the optical drive2.gif. Can also be an issue with the video card/ key board/ mouse/main board which can prevent the system from turning on.
try reseating all the components above except the motherboard.

No Boot - Issue with the Operating system. Try booting into safe mode and check whether the system turns on perfectly. If so try to uninstall all the software you do not use. and may also consider a system restore. else consider a Dell Complete factory restore.

No video - Try flashing light on the screen and look for the desktop. If you see the icons then probably the back light needs to be changed else the issue is with the display itself or the video card2.gif.

Kindly comment.

No display at all

from what you have mentioned it seems that, it can either be one of the following situation
1) you see the power light, hp/compaq logo and the windows startup logo but don't see any logon screen or desktop

2) you don't even see the hp/compaq logo at startup but only see the power light

1) this can mean your display dripers may be corrupt,
what you should do is restart the system and keep tapping F8 from the moment you see the compa/hp logo when you see a menu you will be given the option to start in safe mode select safe mode and press enter, see if you are able to see the desktop now if yes
just go to start menu >run> type in without quotes "devmgmt.msc" > ok > in here click on display adapters> right click on the entry below it select uninstall > after uninstall retsart the system , now when the system boots the system will detect your display adapter and try to load the drivers for it. now you have to follow through with the hard ware wizard and install the drivers.

2) in this case when the system is not even completing post that means there is some hard ware that is stopping it from post

take out the battery from the system and now try to start the system using AC adapter, if it doesn't work then take out all the external pheripherals attached to the system only if you are comfortable doing that
take out the Ram, hard disk, optical media drive and plugin cards that you have and then try to start the system on Ac adapter

if it does start, put one thing in at a time like

try starting it with RAM in,
then ram and hard drive in
then other things one at a time

and the time it stops posting agian it means the last thing that you have entered is faulty and was not allowing the system to post same goes for desktop

but you can check this only if you are comfortable doing it if you are not then you should check with compaq hp technical support also if you are under warranty don't do it on your own check with their technical support.
