To tell the truth I don't know what kind of router I have, I don't know that much about routers :(((( this is the first time that I'm using one. I don't think it's wireless , I believe it's a modem also....by the way I have windows vista, do u think that if I use XP will solve the problem ?

PS : how do I know if it's the NIC card ?

    thanks a lot.

Is this computer that you have a New one, I think it is unledd you upgraded an old one to Vista, but if it is, it might be the Router, where did you get the Router from was it given to you by the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) or is it your own, you might want to see if you ISP provides one for you and they should be able to go to your house and get you connected, in most cases it is the router but in other cases its Windows Vista's security. ( too secure for its own good ).

Is this routter a modem also, or are you connecting a modem to the router?, and is this a wireless router? and are you connecting this to the wireless part of the router? have you tried to connect the PC to the modem directly to see if it works? it might also be the NIC card.

Ihave a dv6000 laptop and and it has a 1394 net adapter but i can't connect to internet what must i do to connect

The 1394 Net adapter that you see in the Device Manager is simply the Firewire Controller....similar to the USB controller. It is not the same as WIFI or have anything to do with Internet connections...UNLESS you obtain a Firewire network adapter dongle and install it. Then you can connect to the Internet in the same manner as WIFI. The dv6000 DOES have WIFI, as well as a 10.100 Fast Ethernet cable connection that can be used to connect to the Internet.

How do i re-enable the wifi in my pc

You state that your wifi "router" will not connect to the internet. That is not inside your computer. The router is the cable modem or dsl modem that transmits the internet in your house. Depending on how it is setup, you may have a second device that separately sends a wireless signal out. The best thing to try first is to turn each device off for 10 seconds and then restart. Some modems have battery backups, so be sure to pull the battery if that is the case to ensure a complete power off. Then restart and see if you have your internet back. This fixes 75% of the issues in this situation.

Cannot connect to wireless internet

First, do you have a wireless router button that enables or disables wireless internet? If so than it might have got accidently turned off. push it and see what pops up on screen. If it says enabled than it was turned of try connecting to internet again. If it says disabled than push again until it says enabled clearly that wasn't the problem. Next try going down to the two computers (right hand bottom corner) then double click them. This will bring up a wireless networks available, try refreshing this page. After refreshed if no networks are available than it may have to do with your internet provider. Try calling them to get a better detailed explanation.

Cannot connect to internet

Is the DNS server internal or on the Internet? Try setting DNS manually to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which are free Google DNS servers and try again.

Internet problems could use some help.

A neighbor's connection could very well affect you. That's what I think your problem is. Now, to be honest, a 36mbs connection is pretty darn good. It's rare that an application would require more. Even a video streaming solution will work fine over that kind of connection. My professional opinion is, not to do anything.

Wireless adapter

check the ettings on the router have not been altered. the chance of 2 wireless cards failing in the same time, on different pcs is very small, more likely the settings that allow connection in the router, the item common to both, have been changed, reinstalling the router has no effect on user settings,
WEP, encryption, MAC controls are all possible suspects, if there has been any change
lock down the router,
many wireless networks are unsecured at the router so that any person driving past can access your router and alter it, default security settings should be changed the day you turn it on

Internet Connectivity Problem

Try This,

Go to the command line and while connected to your modem type the following:

(Wait for each command to finish)

c:> ipconfig /release
c:> ipconfig /renew
c:> ipconfig /flushdns
c:> ipconfig /registerdns

Then attempt to browse one of the sites you were having trouble with.

If that does not fix the problem, then you will need to disable Norton Internet Security temporarily to see if that is causing your problems.

I'll check back to see how you made out.

Let me know how you made out.
