If the sound is consistent/non-stop like a screeching/high-pitch, then yes. This is what it sound like.
    Thank you

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If the sound is consistent/non-stop like a screeching/high-pitch, then yes, it would be the bearing. If however, the sound is more like thumping/rumble, then it would be the tub/drum itself rubbing against the support, bracket or structure. While this indicate an out-of-alignment issue, the bearing could very well also cause the said misalignment. Depending on the number of years in service, some components ten to be rusted or bent. It is also possible for the support brackets/rods/system to have failed.

Initial course of action would be for a look and see by opening the bottom/kick panel and/or the rear. Visual inspection while the tub/drum is manual turned would reveal where the sound is coming from. Thereafter closer inspection would reveal if it is a bearing issue or a support structure problem.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

If it is a Maytag MAH6700A and you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), then replacement parts and exploded diagram are available from here.

That is most likely your bottom. as long as your tub isn't running, then your bearing is going out.

while the tub is turning see if it is off balance while making the screeching sound. If it is moving all around and not staying straight, you bearings are shot and I would suggest having a repair replace it because it is a long time consuming job. I have worked on MANY!

The bearing might have worn out or broken.

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

You have a bad rear bearing in the outer tub. The entire outer tub would need to be replaced to resolve this issue.
Check your owner's manual to see what kind of warranty you have on this part. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you as this is an expensive repair!
Good luck!!

Loud noise during washing/rinsing cycles

I just replaced the bearings on my Front loader Maytag MAH5500B, as it sounded like a freight train during the spin cycle. The bearing replacement fixed the train problem.

NEW PROBLEM NOW: It's been about a month now since the bearing job and now something is clicking/binding when you spin the back belt wheel. I have taken the belt off and carefully move the wheel and I still get this clicking noise. It sounds as if someone is hitting the plastic drum that the tub is surrounded by. I really doubt it's the bearings this soon, as the sound is not the same! No leaks or metal shavings to speak of or rubbing of the belt wheel.

Seems like it's more noticeable during the wash/rinse cycles then the spin.

Can anyone help.???

Loud spin noise from Maytag washer

Check the drum bearing, a load noise, and often spinning problems are symptoms of a bad drum bearing.

No, I'll tell you before forking out $ $ for some bad news. The noise is your bearing. You have to replace the outer tub .Its not going to be repaired any other way.The idiots who designed this washer made this a non servicable bearing. The labor is high not to mention the outer tub is also.REPLACE THE OUTER TUB.
