    Hello,

Have you tried plugging it in another computer? Unfortunately, If you get the same message the usb drive is corrupted and you'll need to purchase a new one.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thank You,

There are several USB recovery programs available. While I don't endorse any one in particular, I tend to stay away from "free" ones, since I believe in the axiom "there's no such thing as a free lunch" since you don't know what's in it for them.

You could try this company, which advertises a free download (but I suspect they are really a shareware company so it's possible that they will want money for a more expansive version) which may make it possible to fix your drive in one instance at least.

If this data is important to you, it's probably worth spending 30 or 40 dollars to avoid a repeat.in the future, because USB drives get corrupted from time to time.

Anyway, here is the link:

Good Luck and If you find my assistance valuable, please give me a rating.

My computer doesn't recognize my dane-elec 8gb usb stick , although other usb devices do work.

1. Try a different USB port. If other ports recognize it, then the original port is fried. 2. Try a different computer. If the other computer does not recognize it, then your flash drive is damaged.

Good Luck!

The device is recognized by my home computer, but not at the work computer

Sinice it is recognized at home it probably has a problem with the drive letter. Check to see if the drive letter it uses at home is used by another device at work. If so you may be able to change the drive letter for it by going to Device Manager and changing the drive letter for the usb.

Sounds like it shorted out when you plugged it in the first time. I would return it and get a replacement. There is nothing you can do to fix it if this is the case.

My computer does not recognize the 4gb USB Flash drive when plugged. Truied on 2 separtate computers now. Windows XP operating systems.

Hi m_j_lester

Do the computers that you tried it on make a sound or give any indication that a new device has been plugged in? If not then it could just be broken. It's not uncommon for these devices to fail altogether and they have a shelf life of about 10 years (depending on how much abuse they get of course!).

If you need any more help then let me know.

Scott.

This also may be a problem with USB versions too. I have a 4GB Deisel USB drive and it will not work on any USB 1 devices.

SanDisk Cruzer 4Gb not found on XP

I have the same issue. I have found a temporary solution though. I have a Sandisk 4GB Cruzer and an HP Laserjet 1022N connected VIA USB. When I uninstall the USB Printing support driver from Device Manager then plug in the Cruzer it recognizes it right away. Not quite sure why this would happen though
