Question about Brother HL-4040CN Laser Printer

1 Answer

Brother HL-4040CN Laser Printer does not feed the paper and stops. I open the paper drawer and the paper will be just above the drawer and I will push back down and close the drawer. Sometimes it will print, but sometimes I have to open and close many times and then it will work.

My Brother HL 4040cn showes a Jam MP Tray. There are no papers jambed but it will not reset.

Hi James,
Remove the paper from the MP tray.
Remove any jammed paper from in and around the MP tray.
Fan the paper stack, and then put it back in the MP tray.
When loading paper in the MP tray, make sure that the paper stays under the maximum paper height guides (1) on both sides of the tray.
Press Black (Mono) Start or Color (Colour) Start to resume printing.

Jam Tray 1...I see no paper anywhere...What do I do?

Check that the paper feed and alignment mechanisms are free in and leading out of the tray. Check very carefully that there is not even the smallest scrap of paper stuck somehwere or hanging up the works. It doesn't take much to make the printer report an error.

THE PRINTER IS INDICATING A PAPER JAM, THERE IS NO SIGN OF PAPER, THE DRAWERS ARE ALL CLOSED TIGHT

Paper light flashing could mean a few things on this machine.

There could be a paper jam in the machine. Open the front cover remove the drum and toner and look in the machine. Open the back cover and look for a Jam as well.

Try putting a piece of paper in the manual feed tray which is right above the paper tray, sometimes on certain documents the margins are too big and asks to go into the manual feed slot.

Brother 2040 printer blinking paper light - I open all of the drawers, took out and put the cartridge back in, played with the paper wheels and it won't stop blinking!

Hello ,

This is due to your computer software selecting the manual feed instead of tray one usually because the software program decides that the paper size is not the standard letter size, such as envelopes, and has to go through the manual feed.

If you are having trouble finding the manual feed, it is found just above the paper tray, usually on the front panel of the printer.

If you are trying to print a letter sized document yet the printer still asks for the paper to be inserted into the manual feed, then one of the settings in the software you are using needs to be changed.

For most windows based applications, you can find a “page setup” menu; in this menu, there is a section that specifies the tray being used to print from.
Make sure the setting in page setup is set to “tray 1” and not “manual”

Thank you,

My brother hl 4040cn is printing fine, except there is a blank vertical line in the middle of the page. what is this?

Usually just toner dust on the laser lens, you remove the toner and drum and look on top inside for a window about 1/2 inch wide. You wipe that window with a dry cloth, and also check for paper scraps inside or on the drum assembly.

Installing paper

The printer loads paper from the installed paper tray or the manual feed slot.
For ordinary tasks, though, you would use the paper tray. This is located in the bottom front of the printer and looks as a kind of drawer. Pull it open to feed the paper.

You can download the User's Manual for your printer from Brother:

I am assuming you have a printer
