It depends on what kind of programs he needs to work. I work with AutoCad 2008 and Google Sketch Up Pro Version 6 for my Architectural work on a low end PC. With a Pentium 4 @ 1.5 GHz, 512 MB RAM, and a small HDD, so you do not need much. Pretty much the cheapest new PC you can buy would be perfect. Hope I Helped!

What do I try to get 17" dell 1908pf monitor to stay on? Just goes to black screen after a couple seconds.

If it is a 1908pf, it is classed as a 19 inch monitor, not a 17 inch. Notwithstanding, the device is approximately 8 model years old, which makes it a senior citizen for computer monitors. Most likely candidate is the ballast (inverter) for the backlight system going bad, or the florescent backlight bulb itself is failing. These CAN be repaired, but as old as this unit is, you are better served buying a new one. Modern TVs/monitors can only be expected to last a little over five years anymore. The backlighting circuits are their weak points. Manufacturers are not interested in improving this, since they want you to buy a new unit every 4-5 years, rather than every 10 years as was the case in the CRT days. "Planned obsolescence", as we like to call it, is not unique to TVs either. Newer appliances (fridges/ranges/dishwashers) are all being made "better", meaning all kinds of bells and whistles, but engineered to last half as long as their predecessors. Apparently we can't have it both ways.

My son has an LG W2234S monitor with his desktop computer. when you start up the computer the monitor just says power save mode and the screen then goes black. We have tried attaching the monitor to my...

If this monitor works with your lap top or the other PC (not your son's PC). Then your son PC video card may not be sending out the video signal so the monitor goes into power save mode.
Did you try another monitor with your son's PC yet?
Does the PC has plug in video card or it is integrated with the mother board, you can also try reseating the card and the RAM.

Disable Power Management on Windows 7 or Vista If you are using a desktop computer, chances are that you don’t want the computer to go to sleep automatically. This is even more the case if you are running Windows 7 or Vista in a virtual machine for testing purposes.
Disabling Power Management in Windows 7
Start by clicking on the power icon, and open up the More power options:
sshot-2009-10-21-23-05-42.png Under the “Additional plans” section, select High Performance, then “Change plan settings”:
sshot-2009-10-21-23-06-52.png Then change everything to “Never”, and save the changes:

Disabling power management is simple and easy. First go to the start menu and click on the Control Panel.
Click on the System and Maintenance link:

poweroptions%5b1%5d.png Then select High Performance:

Is Staples monitor sp2107w compatible with a Mac? I am ordering a new mac for son in college, on tight budget and need to know if the staples 22'' monitor sp2107w will work for the short term. This is the...

I'm having a heck of a time finding that at Staples.com ... although general searches found stuff about it. Mmmmm do they still offer it for sale?

What's the support like for it? Who really makes it? Because I don't think Staples the office supply company makes computer monitors.

Get him a nice Apple monitor from where you're getting the computer - and have them show that it works. That's my suggestion. (Now I'm saying things backwards like Yoda on Star Wars :-)

Is this monitor compatible with any desktop computer?

Your monitor will work with any computer.

Note, if your monitor only has a DVI cable, then you will need a VGA to DVI adapter if the new computer only has a DVI port but most new computers will have VGA.

Thanks and please take a moment to give this solution a rating of fixya.

HP 2025 20.1" Monitor

Unfortunately, the LCD screen of any screen is always the most expensive part of the monitor, and it usually costs as much as the monitor itself to buy, not including shipping and replacing (unless you plan to replace it yourself). I could not find any replacement screens myself, and they are very hard to find. My suggestion is to just buy a new one. Sorry.
