I didn't work on your problem before but I may be able to help if you give me the manufacturer and model of your gas heater.

Thank you for your help with the solution to the problem with my furnace. It was the thermocouple. After I cleaned it and put the old valve back on,it worked fine. I'm thinking maybe it could have been a defective valve or I ordered the wrong one

How to troubleshoot an Amana LG8319W2 Gas Dryer with no heat?

If you've changed the 2 coils and are still having the same problem, the thermal fuse is likely bad. Below is a video demonstrating a typical thermal fuse replacement for your machine. Most Amana products are now Whirlpool.

Check the following: Pilot orifice or line partially clogged --- remove and clean.
use a fine wire or drill bit to do this.
Gas control valve going bad --- replace gas valve. Gas valves cannot be repaired.

I have a Whirlpool gas water heater and the pilot light went out. When I light it it goes out as soon as soon as I release the RESET button.

if it keeps going out, its more likely the thermal coupling is bad and needs replaced. if the coupling goes bad it shuts gas of to heater as a safety precaution. it does not let any gas come out of the main regulator. it works on the principal when the end gets hot it opens the gas valve and lets gas through to burner. replace coupling. have a good day !!

Not sure how to get the water heated. I've turned on the enterior switch and the switch on the back of the unit and tried to light the pilot but don't here any gas coming through at all.

OK this systems has a safety system and it will not let gas pass threw without the pilot light working correctly. first off near the pilot light there is a thermal coupling. this sends a signal to the main valve to open up. this thermal coupling need to get to a set temp. (hot) this is probably why you don't hear the gas. check if there is a manual bypass valve for maintenance. check if you can light the pilot rite away if you power the system on. it also has a time delay so the pilot won't give gas out if not fired on. sometimes there is a manual nozzle you have to press and hold till the gas pilot warms up the thermal coupling. hope i help some. thank you.

Pilot light is not staying lit. woke up to cold water.cleaned flame sensor. still no luck. any ideas?

sounds like a bad thermal coupling! if the coupling goes bad it will shut gas supply off as a safety precaution. it acts similar to a thermometer, if its bad then you will not get any gas through. it is screwed into gas valve and shuts the gas off. have a good day!! replace thermal coupling!

My igniter comes on and glows but that is it. What makes the valve open? The thermal couple?

The igniter makes the gas valve open. When it reaches the correct amp draw the gas valve will open. Sometimes it will partially open allowing some gas thru. The igniter is probally not reaching the correct amp draw. This is easy to check and replace. Here is a link that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/gasoventroubleshootvideo.html

Oven does not work but ignition continuously clicking

The thermal couple on the gas valve is not working, if this oven is old the thermal couple can be replaced independantly of the gas valve,
if is's newer the whole valve assembly must be replaced. if you have never worked on gas appliances call a pro by the way the valves run about $125.00 you might want to consider replacing the appliance
