Question about Durabrand DUR7 Portable DVD Player

No valid disc

When I put a disc in the DVD player the DVD spins, the red light comes on, then a couple of minutes later it says "no valid disc". The disc works fine in another DVD player. I have tried cleaning the lens and have tried pushing the little button by the play button under the cover also. Please help, my daughter is upset because her DVD player doesn't work and her sister's does. :)

Re: No valid disc

Hi I had the EXACT same problem! Here is what I got from the Walmart Warranty site & I must say , it worked! I did all the steps and nothing but the part about sliding the lens assembly is what worked. Apparently it was stuck in the top of the dvd player, once I pulled it back to center, no problems.(this was for Durabrand DUR-7) good luck! Here's the email from them : Make sure the unit is in DVD Mode. Try cleaning the laser assembly. First, power off your machine. Find the laser eye located in the centre compartment. It is perfectly round, and made of glass with a bluish tint. To clean, moisten a good Q-Tip in rubbing alcohol (just a little), and gently swab just the glass lens, taking care not to soak it. Also try resetting the unit. Remove the power/batteries and then hit the power button 10-15 times and then try again. If you continue to have problems unfortunately it sounds as though it is within the electrical assembly. It is hard to say exactly what caused it or exactly what the problem with the circuits are. Try sliding the arm of the laser all the way in until it "clicked". If this procedure still did not help you with your problem and you still have your sales receipt, simply exchange the unit to place of purchase. If the place of purchase can not simply exchange the product you can send your machine to us for service. Please make sure that the form is filled out COMPLETELY to avoid any further delays on getting your machine service. Send me your ..... Full Name: ...........(no P.O. Box addresses, as UPS will not take them) Full Address........... Street: City: State/Province: Zip Code: Phone#: E-mail Address: Brand: Model#: Date of Purchase/ Do you still have your sales receipt: Problem with machine: ....and I can send you the address to ship the unit in for repairs. Without ALL the info, i cannot issue a RA#. I will also need to know the date of purchase of the unit and whether there is a receipt for the purchase. Repair Policy The warranty is 90 days from date of purchase. Check the warranty card for information. Please include a copy of any type proof of purchase. Be sure to double check that all you information is included so I can get you the return authorization number and address A.S.A.P. The non-warranty cost of repair depends on the model number. You may send the machine to us by whatever method you prefer, but you are responsible for the cost of sending the unit to us. We recommend that the unit be shipped to us insured and that a signature be required when we receive it. Repairs generally take 4-6 weeks. Your unit will be returned to you at no charge to you via UPS. Best Regards, Jenny Customer Support Alco Electronics Inc. Email: /

My Funai WV805 DVD player quit playing DVDs

If the DVD do not spins inside the playere, this type of fault can occur. Open the top cover of the player and insert a dvd. See whether it spins inside or not. If not, replace the motor that spins the disc inside. This motor is known as Sled motor.
If disc spins inide and the player do not read or play it, replace the Laser Pickup Unit. It is faulty.

I purchased a toshiba portable dvd player and the disc is not spinning therefore reads no valid disc. I have put in a few discs still same reading? Any suggestions?

The Sled Motor is defective. this is the motor, whic spins the disc as it has been loaded properly. If the loader mechanism loads the disc properly into place and if the catch up magnet catches the disc in place, and still the dis do not spins, replace the sled motor. OK.

Disc is spinning and not reading

what player do you have.
it can be the lazer thats dirty or the main board thats not taking in the info.

open the player.(remove the casing)
switch the player on
open the tray and then close it.(don't put a disc in.)
see if there is a red light shining at the lens.

if you see no red light your lazer is faulty.

if you do see a red light just take a cotton **** en gently rub it over the lens.

DVD stopped playing all DVDs

Reset you player by doing the following:
With the player on, hooked properly to your television, and on the correct station:
Open the tray
Close the tray (with no DVD inserted)
Hold the stop button down for a full 5 seconds
The CyberHome screen should appear. You should be able to play your dvd's now.

Portable DVD player not spinning says no disc

Check to see if the disc is spinning. You can do this by one of two ways either
  • a:) Listen for the disc to spin after inserting it or
  • b:) Place disk in drive right way up (so that the label is not upside down). Load the disc and eject the disc again to se if the disc has moved i.e. the writing may now be upside down.
If the disc does not spin then it is likely that there is something wrong with the disc motor. If it does spin then the issue is more likely to be with the laser unit. Try cleaning the lens but if this doesn't help it's likely to be a more serious and ultimately more expensive problem.

Hope this helps
