I am having the exact same problem. My phone is about 1.5 years old and I can't even use on handset because I have to have a pen or pencil to push really hard on the keys to make it work, especially the on/off buttons.

I know you may not have experience in taking apart the handset or small electronic repair but, it is actually very easy to do. I just bought the same phone set from goodwill for $6.99. The set looks great and actually almost in new condition.

However, I had the same problem with just one handset so, I figured it out so, my set would work properly and now after I fixed it, I have no problems and every handset works great.

Follow these instructions step by step and I assure you it will work again like new.

Step 1.) Take the battery cover off on the back of the handset and pull the cord out carefully from the battery wire to where it connects to.
Step 2.) Unscre the two screws that you see inside. Then, carefully seperate the front cover from the inside of the phone to gain access to the inside of the phone so, you will have access to the 3 small screws that will seperate the circuit board to gain access to the keyboard.
Step 3.) After removing the circuit board and taking out the keyboard and rubber keyboard pad. Carefully wipe all of the buttoms very rigously with an alcohol wipe pad and you will start to notice some plastice film start to come off. This is what you want to remove beacuse, somehow it causes those keys to stick.
Step 5.) After wipeing them clean and reinserting the pad to the cover, the screws in the holes, aliging everything back together and snapping the cover back on, screwing the 2 screws back in and replacing the battery and cover. Test it and you will se that it works just like it did when the phone was brand new.

Hope it worked for you like it did for me and good luck. :)

Phone phones parallel is on how do i shut it off

Unplug base unit overnight.
This will make the phones lose their charge.
In the morning just recharge phones again and everything will be back to normal.
Worked great for me!

Phones not charging

you should definately throw the batteries away. They are probably close to dying and have very little battery life every charge. everytime you charge your battery it has less life in it so if it is old it might be time to replace the batteries.

Handset reset / re-registration problem Motorola E51 MD7161-3 5.8 GHz Quad Cordless Phone (base unit with 3 handsets) no longer detecting handsets. The handsets suddenly stopped working and continuously displayed "SEARCHING" and/or "CHARGING". Attempts to reset and de-register / re-register as suggested by Motorola's Online Tech Support barely succeeded only for a while but ultimately failed. De-registration resulted in the handsets all displaying "ENTER BASE ID" continuously despite repeated entry of the correct Base ID. The problem seems to be in the Base unit's recognition circuitry because the message answering system still works fine, handsets are lit up o.k., keypads work normally, etc. In fact, one of the handsets was detected and worked for a while after persistently entering the base ID within a 2-day period. Then another handset was detected and worked briefly after another 2 days of persistent entry of the base ID. However, once the AC power and handset batteries were removed in an attempt to relocate the system to see if that would help then all handsets just display "ENTER BASE ID" continuously. The message answering system still works as usual without any problems, though. I really would like to get this system working again because it's got just the features I need. However, if all else fails, then I am looking at online reviews of the new Panasonic DECT 6.0 KX-TG9332 or KX-TG8232B and will consider one as a replacement. Can you offer any new solution for the Motorola E51 MD7161-3 problem? If none, have you reviewed the new Panasonic DECT 6.0 KX-TG9332 or KX-TG8232B yet and would you recommend either one?
