If I'm understanding your question correctly, you need to reboot the system hit the F2 key to enter the BIOS setup - find the password page (can't remember what Dell calls it) and disable the password.

I have a dell precision/M4300, and i upgraded to a win 7. But my Fn button dosent work any of my F1-F12 button

Go to, hover over "For Home", and click "Technical Support and Drivers"
Click "Drivers & Downloads".
Click "Enter your Service Tag number (Dell recommended)" and enter your service tag number (you can find it on a sticker on your computer - be sure it is your service tag number, not your express service number.)
Select your version of Windows 7 - 32 or 64 bit
(You can find out which one you have by clicking Start and right-clicking on the "computer" icon on the right side of the start pane and then clicking properties -- it will say "32-bit Operating System" or "64-bit Operating System".
Now, in the list of downloads, you should be able to find "Dell QuickSet" - you will need that and also you should probably get all of the drivers that you can as sometimes Windows 7 doesn't have them all (for example, Chipset drivers, video drivers, card reader drivers, audio drivers, wired and wireless drivers).
Download the drivers with your browser remembering where you save them to (you could just save them to the desktop) and double-click on them to open them. Install them, and if it says that a folder is not created, you have to click that yes you want to create it and then hit OK when it says it successfully extracted the file. Then just hit "next" and "I agree" until it installs the drivers.

Can i convert a 32 bit to a 64 bit

You can use the Upgrade option during Windows 7 installation, which preserves your files, settings, and programs, only if you're currently running a 32-bit version of Windows Vista and you want to upgrade to the 32-bit version of Windows 7. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows 7. For more information, go to Upgrading to Windows 7: frequently asked questions on the Windows website.
If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or vice versa, you'll need to back up your files and choose the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. Then, you'll need to restore your files and reinstall your programs. For more information about performing a custom installation, see Installing and reinstalling Windows 7‍.

  • To install a 64-bit version of Windows 7 on a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using a 64-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files.
  • If you start your computer using a 64-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files, but your computer isn't capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll see a Windows Boot Manager error. You'll need to use a 32-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files instead.
  • Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer files from a 64-bit version of Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista but you plan to install a 32-bit version of Windows 7, you can move your files to an external location manually or use Backup and Restore in Windows Vista. For more information, go to Back up your files and

First of all, since you have no OS, you will need to purchase a copy from the computer store. Put the disk in the drive and boot the computer. As it's booting up press F2 and set to boot from CD. The Windows install shield will put the Windows OS onto your hard disk and install all the drivers for all conected devices, including the web cam.

Click there. Choose your OS.  Then choose 32 or 64 bit.
Download and install.

To find out what OS and 32 or 64 bit, right click My Computer, select Properties. The pop up from that has all this information. XP or Vista. 32 or 64. (If you have XP, it won't show 32. If you have 64, it will. So, if you don't see either, you have 32 bit.)

Let me know if you have any questions.
