It is so common that the washing machine can make terrible noise in many ways and is a common fault. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that machine is vibrating when it is running then the motor /drum suspension has to be inspected. Since these fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for the noise with a good inspection lamp. Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the noise, if so the motor bearings, the drum agitator shaft and fittings must be checked. Also the suspensions which include the shock absorbers and springs, the body clamps must be checked to be in correct alignment and not changed in position. Tightening of the mounting is also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on the moving parts cane solve most issues.

SOURCE: Washer makes loud thumping after finished spin cycle

Remove washer cabinet (easy to remove)and check that "base pads" (there are 3 pads, located under the main tub)are not worn. In case they are worn (even one of them), you should replce them all. Good luck !!

SOURCE: washing machine does not drain during rinse cycle?

Turn timer to rinse cycle. let fill up and agitate. when it stops agitating it should pause then start to pump water out. After about 2 minutes it should pause for 3-5 seconds then start again and spin. If it starts the first time and never stops it will just continue to pump but no spin. The 3-5 second pause allows the transmission to shift to spin. If it does not do this the problem is your timer. You may need to do this a few times to verify the problem.

If that is not the problem it is likely that you need a new clutch. You will need a technician to install a new clutch for you

SOURCE: Maytag Neptune TL FAV6800AW clutch covered in oil

Tom,

I’m a owner and I do all my own repairs on the FAV6800AW. Usually the One-Way roller clutches get a touch of rust and become sticky. If it’s not to bad and the One-way roller clutches can be cleaned up ya might be good to go. Worse case replace with this Clutch . In your case I believe you are leaking transmission oil.

The only place the oil can come from and not containment the wash tub/wash basket would be from the transmission in the area of where the agitator shaft spline engages the female spline in the transmission. Pic attached;

Female Spline on tranny;

Agitator Shaft Spline;

Transmission mounted to Spinner plate;

e788445.jpg

I believe the transmission seal is preventing oil from reaching the tub/wash basket…. That’s my WAG having not experienced this type of failure.

How much oil are we talking about? Have you looked at this post regarding clean/re-lube of the One-Way roller clutches in the clutch pulley and the upper One-Way clutch roller assembly if you series FAV6800AW is equipped with? How do the roller clutches look? They should spin freely Clockwise and lock up in the Counter Clockwise direction.

We have to nail down the tranny oil leak and clean up the roller clutches if possible or replace the Clutch.

From the service manual page 40;

NOTE: A small amount of oil under the transmission is normal.

Sounds like you have a lot of oil contamination.

Good luck and let me know if I can help.

SOURCE: My Maytag Neptune TL FAV6800AW Washing Machine is

Hello zacas6,

dC/uC unbalance errors are caused almost all the time by a Clutch malfunction. Take a look this post and see if you want to DIY the repair. I will help you through the process.

I would also check the Tub Displacement Sensor. This a thru the lid check and you get a feel of how to enter Service Mode.

Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics check.
It is possible the Tub Displacement Sensor may have failed try this check which is in the Troubleshooting guide stored in your washer console or refer to the SM.

a. Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

b. Press the Super Wash key display reads “in”…something like that.

c. Press Delicates the Display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

d. Push tub to the back right corner of the machine the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

e. Press Hand Wash.

f. Pull tub to the front left corner while pushing the tub down the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

I have some additional info if you decide to remove the Clutch in the machine if you are going to DIY.

Is the wash tub rotating CW in the wash cycle (tumblers should rotate only)? You can release the washer top to observe. If so I feel there may be binding in what I call the Spinner support bearings you can see those at the end of my Clutch Fix post.

Are you taking dc/uc unballance error codes while in wash cycle or just during spin cycle?

I believe somewhere around series 12 and above the machine design went to the integrated lower tub bearing/One-Way roller clutch bearing.

Any sign of wash water contaminating the Clutch Pulley One-Way bearing (rust)?.........Rich

Maytag Neptune washer has the error code of UC during the spin cycle. What is the problem?

in the Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer Forum so I assume the machine type is a FAV6800A or FAV9800A correct?

Most issues are caused by a Clutch malfunction if the machine errors out with dC or UC unbalance error codes during the spin cycle. If your wash tub is banging around during a Spin Cycle and the TDS and Control board are working as designed the Control Board will shut the machine down with an unbalance error code dC or UC.

If the machine model is a FAV6800A LED console or a FAV9800A LCD console version it can be fixed with basic hand tools and some DIY effort. If you call in a repair service you are looking at $300 to $400 ballpark if they have a clue of how to troubleshoot the issue. If you DIY cost could be $0 if you have a can of WD-40 around a dab of lithium bearing grease to $75 ball park for a Clutch Pulley replacement.

See this post Clutch Fix and if you want to DIY and save/extend the service life of your 1$K machine.

Noise hear during washing cycle?

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Maytag neptune tl makes grinding sound and stops at 33 minutes in normal mode and at 24 minutes in quick wash mode

Hello djlampl,

With the lowest spin cycle setting I enter spin cycle in Quick Wash around the 21 minute mark. But first question is do you hear the grinding noise with the tumblers rotating during the wash/agitate cycle?

If you start a spin only cycle do you hear the grinding noise?

Does the washer error code out with an error code to the display? Codes such as dC, uC, Lr?, I assume the machine type is a FAV6800AW is that correct?

Any additional info will help in troubleshooting…..Rich

Assuming the machine type is a FAV6800A/FAV9800A here are some handy links;

The machine makes a knocking noise on the final rinse/spin cycle

Hi,
It is a phenomenon called resonance.
Whenever the natural frequency of your sink unit is equal to the disturbing frequency (rpm of the spin cycle of the washing machine) the sink resonates.
It happens only at particular speed of spinning and vanishes with change in speed.
Nothing to worry about and is common. sort of sounds like the spray arm is loose. In your befuddled poking around, perhaps you pulled the lower spray arm out and ran it but, lo, it still makes the noise when washing. You don’t hear the noise during the drain cycle.
Thanks for contacting Fixya.com

Codes and holes

Hi mandystreet,
I’m an owner like you; from what you describe I feel you have a clutch issue if you’re machine is a FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW. I'll bet it completes the spin cycle with no clothes in the wash basket. Here is what is happening
See this post for a step by step process to remove the clutch. Try a maintenance clean up of the One-way Roller Clutch bearing and see if that will get you back in service, if not I would do a Clutch replacement.
Your machine is shutting down the spin cycle with dc and UC errors so your Tub Displacement Sensor is working as designed.
From the Service Manual page 12;
During fill cycle – If machine tumbles and spins simultaneously replace clutch assembly.
During spin cycle – If machine tumbles and spins simultaneously replace clutch assembly.
You can check this out by turning off the water supply lines if you check during water fill cycle. Lift the washer top from the base and observe the action during water fill or spin cycle. The Service Manual will show you how to raise the washer top from the base.
This is happening because the clutch One-way Roller Bearings are sticky, slightly rusted. When the machine enters spin cycle the agitator shaft is slightly engaged because the one-way roller clutches are dragging this will cause the agitator shaft to rotate in spin cycle spinning the tumblers slightly. In this condition the wash load is tossed about while the wash basket begins to spin up. This will cause the Tub to become unbalanced and the tub starts making greater swings.
This continues until the TDS (Tub Displacement Sensor) signals an unbalance condition to the Control Board and shuts the cycle down with a dc or UC unbalance errors. If the TDS fails in this mode the machine would likely walk across the floor until it unplugged itself or ended in a self-destruct.… :)
A WD-40 clean up and re-lube may get you back in service. Just follow this posting step by step. If you are not a DIY type direct your service repair to this e-mail to help speed you to repair and control cost. You can redistribute the wash load until the cows come home and you will continue to fail with UC or dc unbalance errors…. Fix the clutch issue and your machine will be happy and so will the owner.

GE Profile Harmony Washer has loud squeak when filling

Based on your description, it sounds like the water inlet valve is making noise, since you hear a squeaking noise during the filling of the washer. If it sounds like a constant squeak or squealing noise, i'd say it's caused by either the water inlet valve not being pulled all the way open, or because the water supply shut off valve at the house end isn't open all the way. Try opening the water supply shut off valves all the way open, (check to see that they are).

What is interesting is that the squeaking comes back during the draining of the water. Is this while the tub is spinning or only at the very end of the cycle? Again, it could be the water inlet valve, since the washer will "spray" some fresh water into the washer during the final spin cycle to help remove any soap residue, etc.

The part ins't cheap at around $123.00 for this valve, so unless it's really annoying you to no end, I'd wait for the valve to stop working before getting the repair done, unless you want to do the repair yourself, which isn't difficult, with some basic tools and time.

If you wait and let this go until it fails, you'll notice the water in the tub might not fill all the way for the level set, or the valve will start getting even more as it gets worse.

Here's a drawing that shows your washer and the part I'm talking about.
