How to Disable car door ajar light in 2006 Hyundai Sonata for door that won't open or close due to collision

The signal for that comes from the switch in the door to the Body Control Module and from there to the light in the dash. You need to get the damage fixed.

You can disconnect the battery, but then you will have to reset the security and immobilizer each time. There are also various learning procedures involved after a battery disconnect. Your best bet is a battery charger overnight.

Door open sensor

You have it backwards, when the wires are put together like you have done that indicates an open door to the module. When the door is closed it breaks the circuit and when open it makes the circuit. Pull the barrel around the plunger as far out as it goes and then close the door, then the switch is adjusted. Also since all doors have this switch how do you know you have the correct door??

My daughter wrecked her car and the battery drains because the door courtesy light is always on. The reason it stays on us because the door was smashed in a way that the door is always open. Surprisingly...

Find the door open switch and disconnect it, or take the bulb out of the courtesy light socket.
The door switch, out is on, pushed in is closed (light off), you can take some duct tape over the switch to keep it pushed in.

What would cause the door ajar indicator light to remain on when car is off and doors are closed? This is also draining the battery.

Sounds like the wires to the door switch are shorted or the switch is damaged. You may have to remove a kick panel to access the wires.

Courtesy lights stay on after the door has been closed on my 98 LeSabre. What is the cause of that and can I remove the fuse to get the lights off so the battery isn't drained?

Hi Dennis,

Your courtesy lights are controlled by your Body Control Module (BCM). Normal operation is for the courtesy lights to stay on for 2-3 minutes after the door is closed, then turn off.If they stay on longer than about 3 minutes, then there are several possible causes:

1. You may have the "courtesy lamp override switch" in the overide position in the dimmer control on the dash.

2. you may have a door that is not completely closed. You need to check ALL of them.

3. You could have a defective door switch or dimmer control switch

4. you could have a short to ground in one of the door control switch circuits, causing the BCM to "think" that there is a door open.

The CORRECT way to fix this would be to scan your BCM for fault codes and also read the BCM data to find out if it is showing one of the doors as being open when they clearly are not, so you will know which door is causing the problem.

Removing the courtesy lamp fuse will NOT completely fix the battery drain problem if these circuits are shorted or malfunctioning because the BCM will STILL be "trying" to turn these lights on and this will also cause an excessive draw on your battery. However, removing the 15 Amp fuse marked "CTSY LMP/MIRROR" located in the instrument panel fuse block will get the lights turned off and at least slow down how fast your battery is draining.

The battery was dead this mourning and now the locks keep cyceling what could this be from

Assuming all doors are closed inc tail gate . You most likely have a faulty electric door lock and the vehicle will keep recycling as it's getting error in the proximity of door mechanisms . It thinks a door is half open and continues attempt to lock the system. Disconnecting door by door will indicate faulty door . Good Luck

2000 outback trunk indicator light won't go out

Check the switch plunger. If it is broken and does not depress when the door is closed, it will continue to act like it's open. Replace the switch if broken or faulty.
