To fix the dim brightness level, remove the battery and pull the plug out of the mains power. Leave it disconnected for at least 5 minutes then plug it back into mains power. You should find the brightness has retuned to normal. I have 3 of these Clock Radios and the picture attached shows the comparison between dim and normal. For some unknown reason they intermittently decide to dim themselves. This may be why Sony included a dimmer in the next model up ICF-C318. Anyway I hope this helps
This alarm clock radio features an adjustable display backlight, with dim, medium, and bright settings. To select a backlight setting, press the Snooze/Dimmer Bar until the desired brightness is reached.
Hello The backlight LED of your Timex clock has got weak. It should be replaced. But it is really a skilled work as, you have to disassemble the display unit. If you are aware in electronics and have skill to do this work, you can do it by yourself. Otherwise, it will be best to get it replaced by any experienced service technician. OK.
Brightness in display is usually an adjustable feature in most devices and often times due to malfunction this function adjusts itself to the lowest level or someone mistakenly operates it to that level. All you have to do is locate the brightness button and increase the brightness. If on the other hand this does not work then the LED light inside the unit is either burnt or the wires connecting up to it are burnt. In this situation you will need to refer it to an expert or just replace the unit as cost of fixing might be worth a new one. Hope this solution has been helpful?
TRY........with radio on and set on "AM", hold "Clock" button about 7 seconds and let up - bringing a setup menu. Using tuning knob, scroll to "Hardware". Press tuning knob in, bringing up contrast menu. Press tuning knob in, bringing up "contrast level". Turn tuning knob counter-clockwise to "00". Brightness, dimming level should be "170". Turn radio off to exit, then adjust "Dim" button to your liking.
A-ha! Those manuals sure do come in handy sometimes. I found the solution. In addition to functioning as a snooze button for delaying the alarm, the snooze button is also a brightness button for the time. If you press snooze one time it changes the time brightness from bright to dim, press it again and it goes from dim to motion sensitive only, press it again and it returns to bright.
I just tried this and resolved my problem. I hope it helps you as well. Enjoy!
