Most of the time when this happens it is one of two things. The belt has gotten loose and is slipping, or the drum bearing is weak causing the drum to rub on parts of the housing.

your dryer drum wheels that support the drum are either stuck on their shaft or the shaft that they turn on are rusty or eroded out on the wheels/spindle and are creating the noise you hear, you need to access the drum and lower area to see these wheels there are 4 wheels 2 at the back of the drum and 2 at the front of the drum, the rear 2 are most likely the porblem, from the heat of the dryer element

The belt is loose and is most likely due to the belt being stretched out. Replace the belt and the tensioner also to solve this squeal.

Dryer making a high pitch squeeling sound when

The idler bearing that keeps tension on the belt is going out due to heat leaching the grease out of it. Have it replaced.

Maytag dryer squeeks when I first turn it on. Started about a couple of weeks ago. Squeek would go away after a few minutes, however now it is continuous.

Hi, The most popular squeeling issue in the Maytag dryer is caused from the idler pulley. The idler pulley keeps tension on the belt. The next possible problem could be the 2 rear drum rollers. These rollers are fastened to the rear bulk head and they support the drum. The third possibility is the motor bearing. Usually, when the motor starts to squeel, the motor will shut off suring the cycle and will not restart until the motor cools down.
I would advise you to change the idler pulley as well as the rear support rollers. The cost for these parts are very costly and a little preventive maintainance goes a long way.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Squeeling sound on spin cycle

This sounds like the same problem I had with my 887-327. It seems that coins can fall into the water pump from the bottom of the drum. I had to pull the water pump off the direct drive and turn the blades until the dimes came out. After I reinstalled the pump everything was quite again.
