Question about Yamaha RX-V463 Receiver

Rx-v463, no sound from rear speakers, and hookups

We just bought this system and have spent 4 hours working on this already. We bout the Quintet III speakers and 2 Klipich subwoofers. There is only 1 output for the subwoofer, but the salesman said it is possible to hook up 2 on this receiver but we can't get it to work. Also, we do the auto test and all speakers (except our one sub we can't get hooked up right), but then when it finishes, it will only output sound on the front 2 speakers and sub. We are not getting any sound out of the center or rear speakers. We are shot and I swear I have read this manual 8 times over but maybe I am just missing something still. Can anyone help. We are using HDMI cables and we have a 40" Polaroid TV.

Sir please check first the volume setting of rear and center speaker it could be set to min. you can not hook 2sub via the sub out because it only has one rca output. but you can use the passive connection via the speakers. you control though the subs by the amount of db you put on your main speakers. if test fails for the rear and center, try using a dvd source and set to any video dsp. raise the volume of rear and center. if still no sound coming, have it checked by the dealer could be a problm with the dsp.

Sounds like an internal software issue dealing with this device.you may have to return it to the manufacture for this repair.

Speakers not playing

The problem can be the cable or speakers or RX-V463 or settings. Need to check one by one.
Set the RX-V on DTS or Dolby Digital
1) Check Cables - connect the 2 (surround) cables from RXV's Centre Out to Centre speaker. If the Centre speaker works, then cables are ok.
2) Check speakers - Connect each Surround speaker to RXV's Centre out. If it works Speakers are ok.
3) Check RXV - Set it on DTS or Dolby Digital
Connect RXV's surround out (one at a time) L and R to the Centre speaker. If there is no sound, the problem could be RXV's settings (I need to read the manual).

Hope this helps.

Actually, the Quick Start Guide on page 6 of the manual shows the TV connection.

Consider that the TV is simply a visual element in your entertainment system and the rest will sound easy.

Run a single RCA cable from the receiver to the TV's Video IN so you can use its menus and view whatever video comes into the receiver.

Manage whatever audio you want to hear in HI-FI directly from its source to the receiver and NOT washed through the inferior audio electronics and speakers of the TV.

Maybe some speaker wire is loose and sometimes makes a short-circuit. Check all wires or better disconnect all wires and try to have the receiver turned on without the speakers and see if it helps. If yes, there is issue either with the wires, connections or speakers. If the receiver still powers off without the wires, it is probably faulty and you need to send it for service.

If you're getting audio out of one speaker, it's likely not an issue with how the TV's connected to the receiver, but an issue with how your speaker's are connected.

If you run a "speaker test", do you get audio out of all your speakers? If not, it's likely you mixed up your positive and negative connections when connecting your speakers.

You need to press the AMP button before you press the ENTER button. Always press AMP first when selecting menu, enter, any surround mode, or one of the amp functions in ORANGE above the green numeric buttons.

Got this from Yamaha.

This receiver does not have video conversion capabilities. In the owners manual it mentions this. So HD in = HD out. Analog in = analog out on the video portion
