Question about Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 for PC

1 Answer

I am using outlook 2003 for e-mail. All of a sudden, when I open outlook it kills my internet connection. All I have to do is just open outlook, not do anything once it is open. Then I have to shut down my computer and reboot my modem. After that, I can access any internet site UNTIL I open outlook and then, bam, no more internet connection. I don't have this problem with excel or word which are all part of the Microsoft Office. I am using XP and running Explorer 6.

Check in outlook options>mail setup>dial up"Control how outlook connects to your dial-up accounts"
what you need to set is :
Always use an existing dial up connection
warn before switching
and DO NOT have checked the hang up when finished part

OR
go to ahm email accounts
change existing email accounts
choose your profile, and click change
then choose more settings
connection tab
There is also a setting: connect using my phone line etc etc etc
so you might wanna set LAN or whatever there too
cause there is a modem setting there too

if this all is already set this way i need some more information like what kind of connection do you have.

How to change settings in Outlook to delete message from server after downloading

Hi, follow the steps below. Don't change any of your settings since they already work, but when you get to step 7 this is where you check whether or not you want to remove the emails from the sever.

Open Outlook 2003 then:
  1. Click Tools ' E-mail Accounts.
  2. Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next.
  3. Select POP3, then click Next.
  4. Enter the following information:
    • User Information
      • Your Name: Type your name as you'd like it to appear when you send an email message.
      • E-mail Address: Type your Yahoo! Mail Plus email address (for example, jo.bloggs@yahoo.com).
    • Server Information
      • Incoming mail server (POP3): Type pop.mail.yahoo.com
      • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Type smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    • Login Information
      • User Name: Type your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
      • Password: Type your Yahoo! password.
    • Check the Remember password checkbox if you don't want Outlook to prompt you for your password each time you check your mail.
    • Do notcheck the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) checkbox.
  5. Click the More Settings button. The Internet E-mail Settings dialog box appears.
  6. Select the Outgoing Server tab:
    • Check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
    • Make sure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
  7. Select the Advanced tab:
    • Under "Incoming server (POP3)," check the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox. The number in the "Incoming server (POP3)" field usually changes automatically from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, type 995.
    • In the Outgoing server (SMTP) field, type 465. Under it, check the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox.
    • If you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on both the Yahoo! Mail server and on your computer, check the Leave a copy of messages on the server checkbox. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! server once Outlook has downloaded them onto your computer, leave the box unchecked.
Note: After your messages are deleted from the server, we cannot retrieve them.
  8. Click OK to close the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box.
  9. Click Next and then Finish.
  10. Close and restart your Microsoft Outlook.

Outlook 2003 I want name at end of email

You can do that when you set up your signature and it is in HTML. To set up HTML format on all emails, go to Tools -> options -> Mail format and on "Send this message format" make sure that HTML is selected.

For the signature, on the same Mail format tab, select the signature and select the file or make your signature on the same window. In making your signature without using Outlook, you can use MS WORD and save it as a web page/web page filtered and have the file selected when choosing your signature in Outlook.

I sent an e-mail with about 30 photos. It still reads ''sending mail''. Cannot delete message from Outbox.

That is because it is taking a long time to send the photos. If you want to kill it off, you have a few options. First off, try to close Outlook. If it fails to close, then you can try to kill it off using Task Manager.

Now, this part is tricky. Once Outlook has closed, you want to get in and delete the message in the outbox FAST! So, try this. Start Outlook and immediately go to the Outbox, select the msg and delete it. If you dont do this fast enough, it will begin to transmit it and you will be stuck with the same problem.

If this does not work , you can try going in to your mail accounts (Control Panel) and disabling your accounts (basically dont give Outlook an account to send/receive from/to). Then delete the msg from your Outbox, then go back and re-enable the accounts.

Good luck
