Gateway PC Notebook/Tablet Model: CX2618 Monitor Replacement
Hello Technical Suport,
I'm looking for instructions on how to replace the monitor screen. I have one good notebook with a bad screen. Another that has multiple issues. So, I would like to take the screen from the one and replace it with the other one that will make a complete usuable notebook/tablet.
The currently monitor screen is dark and unviewable 98% of the time. I have temporarily attached a CRT monitor to the notebook. Therefore, I know all other parts are working properly.... simple a monitor screen that has gone bad. Can you help me?
Re: Gateway PC Notebook/Tablet Model: CX2618 Monitor...
First shine a flashlight on the screen. if you can see a very faint image on the screen the problem is the backlight. If not... it could be a few other problems, first test if it works on an external monitor. If it can then you need to cleear the CMOS. to do this you unplug the cord remove the battery and hold down the ON button for 30-60 seconds, then turn it on. If it does not work on the external monitor it is probally because you have a bad video card and need to replace it.

hello, this laptop screen is hard to find and we both know why one would not try asking Gateway for price, ;-)
you should try www.lcds4less.com you should be able to get one for less than $200 (new one).
if you don't see the model listed call them anyways often times they have a replacement model that fits you might just have to replace the back cover of the LCD screen to match the color.
First test if it works on an external monitor. If it does you will need to clear the CMOS. To clear it:
remove the battery, unplug the cord, and hold the ON button down for 30-60 seconds. Then turn it on. Thats how you clear it on most laptops.
If it does not work on the external monitor, you probally have a bad video card and need to replace the old one
