Question about Jenn-Air JS42SEFXDA Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

Js42sefxda jenn air freezer dripping water from the top vent

I have a jenn air model js42sefxda it is at my second home and not in heavy use. I do have a pretty filled with food and it does not have the ice maker connected. Just recently it has started to drip from the freezer vent hole the large oval located on the ceiling near the front and drips down the shelves onto the bottom. It is not a consistant flow. I did remove the top grille cover and vaccumed the fins but there really wasn't much on them. Both sides are cooling properly and I did check to make sure that the vents were not being blocked both in the refrigerator and freezer side. Any help would be great.

Check that the drain tube for the defrosted water is not plugged. Someone on here just the other day had the same exact problem, and that was the problem they had.

Jennair jsp42ppdbda faulty evaporator drip pan - leaking down into freezer compartment

I've got the same problem. After installing a replacement drip pan (W1019913) and disconnecting the thermistor per the enclosed instructions, the problem returned within two months. I just called Jenn-Air customer service and was told that there is a new design for the drip pan this is only available through Jenn-Air, and not through distributors. Therefore the part I purchased in November through a distributor was the old design (even though it was dated 1/27/11).
The Jenn-Air rep agreed to have a tech install the new design under warranty, even though I purchased the unit almost 5 years ago. I'm hopeful that this will correct the problem.
If you still want instructions on how to remove the drip pan, let me know. But I would return the part you've got and ask Jenn-Air do it for free.

There is a defrost timer that normally controls the defrost cycles.
It appears that the defrost timer has failed. A new timer needs to be fitted. a technician can help you with that

I THINK THAT I HAVE A PLUGGED DRAIN LINE WHICH IS RESULTING IN A ICE BUILD UP IN THE EVAPORATOR SECTION OF THE REFRIGERATOR. HOW DO I CLEAN THE DRAIN LINE? MODEL JS42SEFXDA JENN-AIR

Best thing to do is pull the plug for 24 to 48 hours. Put towels on floor to **** up the melted water. Plug back in and if everything works the drain is clear. If it refreezes then the defrost timer is bad which is not a cheap cure.
I hope my suggestions helps and all the luck to you.

Refridgerator drips water from the cold air vent.

if your freezer is on top,you most likely have an overflowing defrost drain. there is a drain that starts in the freezer and continues down to the drip pan. start at the top and work your way down.

Same problem with Frigidaire Gallery model#GLRT182SAW5 (dated 2002 on back of case)

Vents were blocked with ice. Vents (from top compartment to lower) located behind light. You can check by poking a chopstick up the (2) holes; be careful not to hit fan blades.

Solution:

- took freezer coil cover off in back; checked that defrost heater element was working (marked and rotated the timer in the hole next to light); checked that fan working. Found ice in the vents and defrost drip area. Got it out with hair dryer.

- cleaned compressor coils in back (check fan is rotating; also tweaked some of the compressor tubing bends to make them more smooth - read somewhere about a manufacturing defect ...); blew out drip tube from defroster while down there.

- Set the freezer control to WARM and the refrig control to COLD (THIS SHOULD IMPROVE AIR FLOW FROM TOP TO BOTTOM).

- Put thermometers in top and bottom. Checked that refrigerator cycles (not running continuously). Checked that cold air is coming down from (2) vents behind light.

OK: so far, so good. Lower compartment is 40 or under. Top is under 18.

CONCLUSION: Suspect marginal design. Had problems with another similar model where defroster ice doesn't drain correctly, pools and refreezes. Leading to blocked vents as well as blocked defroster drain and similar problem including dripping water from top to bottom and warm bottom.

MAYBE KEEPING THE FREEZER CONTROL AT WARM GETS AROUND THE PROBLEM?? ANYWAY, ITS WORKING FOR ME FOR NOW !!

Jenn-Air Glass Door - How to Clean

Sounds familiar. I saw this thread this afternoon while trying to clean my own oven window. My sense is it is definitely a design flaw. It's just too easy to drip something down the top door vents onto the inside of the multiple glass panes.

Here's what I did. I removed the door, following the manual instructions. Open the door to 1/4 and lift it up. Then I put it down on a soft surface and started removing screws until it came apart. It wasn't too complicated though it took some time. Be sure to keep track of your screws as you do this as there are a few different kinds.
