Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

1 Answer

The wash cycle has inceased the time to 80 min.

Cycle time used to be 45 min. or close to that now is 80 min set on wrinkle free normal soil max extract. What could be the problem? It still washes fine just takes a long time. How do I decrease the time back to like it was new.

There is no reset under options, and max extract is not selected, nothing but normal cycle is selected and it goes to 70 minutes automatically when it used to go to 55 or so.

Under options push reset this will remove the stain cycle and max extract. Your speed should be back now. If your not using the HE detergent you might want to start using it also. I've read in other posts that regular detergent is too sudsy and interferes with the electronic sensors that determine the wash cycle. I hope this helps.

My Maytag 9000 started to smell moldy. I tried cleaning the seal, running vinegar through a wash and drying the whole thing out but nothing works.

First pull out soap dispenser all the way ,clean it and inside the hole with mold and mildew cleaner let it soak. Use washer magic on door seal rubber Glover and a rag get in all the creases let it soak at least 15 min. Than that a cleaner called affresh. Taplets. Use two place in tub an run a clean cycle most front loaders have this cycle .if it doesn't max everything hot water extra rinse heavy soil . repeat 1 more time all steps. Than 1x a month pull dispenser clean ,clean door seal and use 1 tablet on clean cycle. Only use 2 table spoons of detergent and only use HE soap

The times seem to have changed on the settings for soil levels. For instance, the quick is 50 minutes and the normal is 84 minutes. That does not seem right. Is there any way to set them different?

Answer to your question "Is there any way to set them different?" Short answer is no. The Maytag Neptune like many other washers that display a time of cycle first start with an estimated time this relays a lot on the last cycle ran. But, more importantly it also takes into consideration other washing options. For example, lets say that your quick wash cycle used to only display 35 min. now if you select an extra rinse option the time will increase from that 35 min. to a higher amount of time. This is due to the longer time it takes to go through a second rinse cycle. The MAH5500 if I'm not mistaken also has a heater in it so there are options such as sanitize which takes 120 degree hot incoming water (suggested temp. for hot water heaters) and heats it to approx. 165 degrees. And as you can imagine this takes a washer some time to do this (increasing wash time). If you would like to lower washing time check the washing options and remove any that are not needed at that time; pay close attention to extra rinse cycles and the soil levels that are selected. Hope this helps. Cheers.

My Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW top load washer only runs for the first few minutes of the cycle, it will not spin..it just stops..we've tried two cycles, the quick wash...it starts at 33 mins and then stops...

I'm and owner and will try to help. Are you handy and do you want to try a DIY fix?

From the wash times is sounds like the washer is agitating the wash load (tumblers are rotating the wash basket load) is that correct?

If so see if the machine will complete a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket. Set the Spin setting to Spin/Hang dry seting and start the cycle. It should take about 10 min complete. Does the Spin Only cycle complete with no clothes in the wash basket?

Some handy links if you are going to DIY.........Service Manual for reference.

The wash time continues to increase on every cycle. I have a Maytag Neptune TL Washer.

Thank you my machine model number. The reason I ask is so many folks post non FAV6800A/FAV9800A issues in this forum. This forum doesn’t ask for machine model number and serial number. Here we go.

Does your machine seem to take longer than normal to fill with water?

Does the machine increase the time during the Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle?

Are there any error codes to the LED display such as dC or uC?

Do you want to work toward a DIY fix? If not maybe we can get a solid feel for the issue that will help you in the decision process to bring in a repair company or replace.

So I can better understand the issue can you start a Quick Wash cycle with Soil and Spin settings set to lowest setting and if you could place a couple of bath towels in the wash basket for a load.

I want to see if the machine will go thru the Wash, Rinse and Spin cycle within the 27 to 29 min time of a Quick Wash cycle. I want to see if the machine is increasing Washer Cycle time in the Spin Cycle of the Wash Cycle.

You should enter the Rinse Cycle at the 20 min mark on the LED display.

You should enter the Spin Cycle at the 10 min mark on the LED display.

Watch the cycle and see if you have similar times as I do. Let me know if the washer has any off balance issues as it enters into the Spin Cycle…..Rich

How can I reduce the time needed for a wash ? It takes 2 hours is there any way to make it less ?

Most machines have a soil level selection (light / normal / heavy) and if you select light soil level the wash time is reduced. Also, some machines have a " Quick Cycle " which cuts a lot of time off, which should only be used with lightly soiled clothing. Additionally, make sure you have adequate water pressure, and that the inlet screens are clear so that the cycle is not delayed essesivly due to slow water fill. Regardless of all these, the higher spin speeds of a front loading machine (those have the longest wash times, due to the low water use and the tumbling wash action used vs an agitator in a top load machine) will result in reduced dryer run time, thus helping to reduce the overall time a load takes to wash and dry. (although still longer than most top loading sets) Generally, the energy savings and larger load sizes will outweigh the extra time the machines take.

Washer options not working on control panel. The options that aren't working or responding to controls are: presoak, stain cycle, extra rinse, heavy soil, normal soil, light soil. Other options work and am...

when you push the button to select the options that arent working do the lights at the selected option come on? if they do not then you need a new control panel they will cost you approx 100$ to sell it as is you would be lucky to get rid of it, they only last for 7 or eight years max anyway before the outer tub bearing fails.
