Are you using XP, you can boot in Safe mode and log in as Administartor(usually it does not have any password), so login with Admin account and remove the password of your account. and then restart the system to Normal mode to get your system working.
But unfortunately in case if it is Vista, there is no other option other then formating the whole system.

OPHcrack is a password cracking program (legal and open-source) included in many (if not most) linux-based boot disks like UltimateBootCD, Knoppix, RescueCD, and many others and on its own (as OPHcrack)- a no-brainer to run, you just cold-boot with the CD or other removable media drive set as 1st boot device in BIOS or select from the boot device selection menu before the OS loads. These boot disks will ask you for some input to run (read the prompt), OPHcrack will run directly, other disks will require a few other steps to run the program.

SOURCE: i locked a password in
Try this before you do anything drastic.
Turn on the computer, while it is starting up keep tapping F8...this will take you into Safe Mode.
Once you are in Safe Mode you can go to Programs>Control Panel>User Accounts>Change Accounts and change your password there...it should solve your problem.
