Question about Sony KV-36FS13 TV

6 Answers

Sony KV-36FS13 Color is off (white balance?)

One day I turned on the television and everything looked purple. The power comes on and there is a picture, but when we turn it on, we get the infamous 13 quick red blinks followed by steady sets of 5 red blinks. I understand that the white balance may be the issue here, but have no idea whether this constitutes a ''major repair'' and how much it might cost to fix.

    Given the proposed sources of the problem ...
    "loose connector (least likely);
    open/shorted color drive transistor (likely);
    cold solder of the pins (most likely)."

    -What is meant by "cold solder of the pins"?
    -Would this be a major repair?
    -Is it worth paying to have it fixed?

In cold soldering all the major junctions and all the small components on the board will be cold soldered and if they r loose it will be made firmly stuck up to the board.and yes it is wrth getting it fixed.and mostly after cold soldering it gets repaired and works properly.

The cause may be

1. Video OUT (IC561) is faulty (A board)
2. IC 355 is faulty (A board)
3. Screen (G2) is improperly adjusted

These are starting points for a qualified service technician.

Most probably picture tube is gone and that is not worthy to replace it. You can try to adjust the picture. Try to turn up the screen control so the picture comes on. Then turn it down so retrace lines disappear. In a good scenario 5 blink disappear too.
Good Luck

Problem of no color is caused by cold solder of parts joints of a 'crystal' multivibrator is loose causing the color is gone .This is look likes metal square with rounded edges near the control system IC.If you have knowledge in electronics and know how to solder you can rebuild the solder or simply resolder so it works better again. If not just call a Tv repairman or bring it to a shop in order to avoid electrical shock ,this not cost you much ,maybe it cost you $50 to $75.

Hope it may help you ;

    Cold solder is like a loose connection of parts from the circuit board or detach from the connection needs to resolder again in order to hold firmly in board or connected again .

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described problem indicates that only red & blue are operational, the green is missing or weak. Since this is a conventional/standard CRT TV, then the most likely culprit would be the green drive transistor. This together with the one for the blue & red are located in a small squarish PCB (printed circuit board) at the rear of the tube. Each transistor is responsible for each of the 3 color guns. In some instances, this could be:

  • loose connector (least likely);
  • open/shorted color drive transistor (likely);
  • cold solder of the pins (most likely).
It has to be mentioned that in some models/versions, all 3 transistors are encapsuled in a single power pack IC.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

    Appreciate the postback.

    As earlier stated, only 1 of the 3 colors is missing and since this involves in all likelihood a single component, then yes, it is worth having it repaired. Not only is this relatively easy, it is a low cost job.

    To your specific concerns:

    • What is meant by "cold solder of the pins"? in electronics, cold solder refers to a joining of two components held in place by melted/solidified solder lead that has lost its adhesive properties. Simply, it would refer to components that are physically together but not electrically joined;

    • Would this be a major repair? - no

    • Is it worth paying to have it fixed? - definitely yes.
    Cheers.

    The CRT PCB would be encased in a shielding/casing as shown below.

Hello mvadima11,
Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!
To answer your question: The white balance isn't the issue on this set, in my opinion.I would be more inclined to believe that someone had placed a speaker or large magnet too close to your television.If you have speakers right next to the set, move them away. If someone set a magnet on the set sometime recently, you will have to rebalance the tube.
To try rebalance of the tube, find the largest magnet you can find. Then starting from the outside edge of the tube, go in clock-wise circles, slowly, all the way to the center of the television. Once you have arched the center, pull slowly, straight out. Now turn your color back up to normal. This should fix your issue.
Have a great day!

How to add an Exterior Speaker to Sony KV-13M10

Welcome to FixYa!

To add an exterior speaker to Sony KV-13M10, you have to have an AMPLIFIER.
  • At the back of your TV you will be able to see 3 RCA output namely = VHF/UHF, Audio and Video.
  • Use an RCA cable and connect to the Audio output.
  • At the back of your amplifier, connect the other end of the RCA cable to an RCA input labeled Audio - L (left, usually in white color).
  • Your speaker should be connected to your amplifier labeled output or audio out. The connection type depends on the make and model of your amplifier. The speaker wires usually come in red and black color. red goes to red, black goes to white.

A simple diagram will look like this:

TV audio out -------------> amplifier audio in (left, white color) amplifier audio out (left, white color) -----------> speaker (black wire) amplifier audio out (right, red color) ------------> speaker (red wire)

Have a great day.

Tv keeps turning itself off and the white in the picture looks alittle off.

To get the right colors, especially a plain white, requires the right mix of red, green and blue from the picture tube. Sony TV sets have a circuit called AKB that automatically keeps the picture tube balanced by adjusting the signals to it. If that balance can't be achieved it shuts off the picture. This may due to tube aging so one of the color guns is too weak to adjust, or failure of parts in the AKB circuit itself. If the sound stays on and the power light starts blinking when the picture goes off, this is likely why.

On the other hand, if the set is turning off completely with no picture, sound or power light, the set may have power supply problems or defective parts in the picture tube high voltage circuits.

Since there are several possible causes, this set needs to be checked by a technician who can diagnose the problem and decide what needs to be done. It's not a simple thing I can point to and say "change this part". If the picture tube is the cause, it's better to replace the set. Otherwise get an estimate, then decide whether to fix or replace.

Sony Trinitron kv-27HFR blurry

the picture tube is gone.
i repaired 150 sony xbr and kv series with that problem.sony has a single gun not three and has a great pix,but burn out faster.
there is a main screen control that you can adjust ,but the tube is gone.
on the back of the crt there is 3 gun drives r g b .
turn the color all the way down so it is black and white.
if there is a green ore purple tint,one gun is out of balance.
ajdusting the r g b controls so that black and white is normal is what you want to do.
the crt board has the screen bias voltage 800volts on it so be very careful and use an insulated screwdriver to adjust the drive controls.

Hello MLD110368
I think, TV screen has white-balance failure thats why TV light blinks 5 times.
While living in Pakistan, I can't fix your TV there. In my point of view, it doesn't cost much and you should contact nearest Sony repair shop.

Five blinks means, "IK (AKB)" (white balance). The probable causes listed by Sony are as follows:
1) Video OUT (IC561) is faulty (A board)
2) IC355 is faulty (A board)
3) Screen (G2) is improperly adjusted.

not sure what the 13 blinks are for.

hope this helps,
