Question about Air Tools & Compressors

Open Question

Manual for Badger Silent II model 380-2 Air compressor.

Just tried to use this air compressor for the first time in years. Not sure if I am forgetting a step or something on this, cause it won't start, just buzzes at me for a second then sits there, then after a minute or so, buzzes quietly at me again, then sits there again. Anyway, would like manual/service manual to make sure that I am doing everything right, if I am then how to fix it. :) Thank you for any help .

If you haven't already fixed it, your motor start capacitor is bad, mine was doing the same thing. McMaster Carr has a replacement capacitor (Part # 7245K727) that is rated at 250v and ~165mfd, for $11.17. Discharge your capacitor as a precaution before you touch the leads, even though it's most likely bad. Solder the 15k resistor from the old capacitor onto the new one and solder the wires directly to the posts.

SOURCE: Compressor causes 20 amp breaker to trip.

If I did the math correctly, 5.5 HP is right at the boarderline of 20 amps, particularly for an older machine that has some deteriorating electronics.

What to do? Can you reconfig the motor to run on 220 Volts??? It would then run on 1/2 the amps.

If you have a dedicated 120 line for this compressor now ... all you have to do to change that to 220 is change the breaker (I presume you have a vacant slot to do this). Find the "neutral" for that wire (white) ane make it the "red" for your compressor line ... (and mark it as such for your future behefit) change the outlet from 110 V 20 A to 220 V 20 A. Both lines will run on #12 with G wire.

If you dont have a slot, you could change one of your standard slots to a "piggy back" remodeling style breaker (has two breakers in one slot). This will free up one slot in your panel for the new 220 (double pole) breaker.

Let me know what you think

Thanks for using

Need new ON/OFF box

If you take out the old switch it should have a model number on the bottom. Its important that the new switch has the same max pressure and the fittings in the same place. Most switches will fit in most compressors. Ebay has a large sortmiment.

Super silent air 20-air compressor not running it humms for 3 seconds an then turns off every say 10- 15 seconds.

Hi, does it build up preasure? Possible problems can be too much water in the tank, air intake pluged, auto shut-off not properly adjusted or defect. Was it run hot before without oil?

Awhen i use my air gun it just started sparing oil throughgun

Hi, The compressors are cooled by oil. The motor is hanging inside the oil tank on springs. The air input on the inside is sucking oil. This means the hose on the inside is loose or has a leak.

Supersilent 30 gives a small sound then a click thats it

I had the same issue with my ss 20-a. I believe that it was because I used the wrong oil. Silent aire claims that you have to use their special synthetic oil. I did not know this and after nine months my compressor stopped working. I opened up the compressor and did a little tinkering. I found that the compressor shaft was stuck and not spinning. Taking a wrench and a cloth I was able to loosen it. Now it spins freely and produces pressure. I just have to wait for the silent air oil before I will let it pressurize fully.

How do I connect a badger airbrush hose to a Airbrush Depot TC20T compressor?

Airbrush Depot compressor should be a 1.4NPT which is the most common- Badger makes an adapter for this size to their hose fitting. That fitting should be available from many sources. Badger did/does use a couple of sizes so make sure you know which model of brush you have. is the is at the bottom of the page.

If nothing else, it should be available through Walthers

The unit is a 12000 BTU energy efficient model purchased from Lowes 3 years ago. It is not cooling. The fan runs fine but it just isn't cooling. The filter doesn't need cleaning. What could it be?...

The compressor is probably not running.

The Main reasons that this will happen
1 - A bad run capacitor (silver or metal capacitor)
It’s either shorted, grounded or open.
If it’s shorted a lot of times it will bulge out, (sometimes slightly)
2 - A bad start kit ( plastic capacitor and Relay connected to it )
The capacitor is either shorted or open
The relay either has an open coil between terminals #1 and #5
Or the relay is stuck.
Any time you change the capacitor or relay you should change
the other, especially if they are over a year old.
3 - A loose, burnt or disconnected wire
4 - Wired wrong
5 Compressor is open (windings burnt open)
6 Low on charge not getting enough cooling back to compressor, (Feel top of compressor to see if it’s hot it shouldn‘t be)
7 Some compressors have a black plastic overload under the compressor cap which could be bad.

Need a manual to print out

Your compressor is most likely Campbell Hausfeld VT series with two cylinder cast iron pump. You can find lots of information at Click on the manuals button and just enter VT for a list of all manuals in that range. Do not worry about the exact model number because most all 5hp honda models are very similar as they only change a bolt here and a nut there over the years. Good luck on your roofing project. If you have other questions about your compressor just post again.
