I've seen this before in desktops and laptops. Either your fan doesn't spin at sufficient speed to cool the CPU or something is working your laptop to hard. Some virus software (Norton) randomly start a process that scans every file in your hard drive, which takes almost all your CPU power. If that is the case, boot in Safe Mode and uninstall.

It sounds like it's over heating. Check to make sure the cooling fan is working and try blowing out the area where the cooling fan is with canned air.

Why does my laptop keep shutting down unexpectedly?

This is likely due to overheating. Use some canned air and blow out the cooling fans and heat sinks on the bottom and back of the computer. In worse case scenario you will need to take it to a repair shop and have them open the case and clean out the blockage and perhaps re-grease the CPU heatsink.

Overheating ACER ASPIRE 5733

Are you getting any warning the system is overheating? Have you cleaned out the inside of the computer of all dust? Dust on the heat sink is the big culprit here. Also make sure as few programs as possible are running in the background, the load increases the heat of the processor a little with each program that is running.
