Reser again the key.
However is the key is not responding. The board can be faulty.

1. Door is not closed (some models).
2. You waited to long (open and close door to wake it up).
3. Controller is confused (pull plug for a minute or two to reset).
4. Defective interlock switches.
5. Faulty controller or its power supply.
6. Touchpad or controller board contaminated by overenthusiastic cleaning.

Temperature at 10 power level

It does not work that way. The microwave OVEN generates (electromagnetic) microwaves that are absorbed by the molecules of the food in the oven, the container and the air.
The absorption rate depends on the molecular composition. After enough microwave energy is absorbed the overall temperature increases and the food is warmed, heated or cooked. If your mixture is inhomogeneous some parts absorb more energy while other absorb less and you can have hot spots.

The power level by itself won't give you an indication of the temperature because you need to know the time that the power has been applied. In simple terms Energy =time*power. The temperature reached is somewhat proportional to the energy, that makes it dependent on the time and the power.

What wattage is toshiba er6860w microwave?

You can do an exact power measurement by putting exactly
500 ml of water in a glass (Pyrex) or plastic measuring cup in the microwave. Measure the beginning temperature and record it, preferably with a digital thermometer. Run the unit on high for exactly 18 seconds. Use a digital watch or a stop watch, not the timer on the unit. Remove the measuring cup and stir the water to make sure that all the water is a uniform temperature. Record the temperature rise. Say the temp rise is 20 degrees Fahrenheit Multiply that figure by 38.75, this would indicate that the power delivered into the cavity is 775 watts. This is the old standard of measuring the power. The new standard called the IEC 705 would add 10% to that for a total of 852.5 watts. This matters more than the rating of the unit because if the power output is more than 15% below the units rated power, the magnetron is probably getting weak and needs to be replaced. Probably not worth the cost to repair. The voltage at the wall could also cause a low power output output. 'Google' the model # to see if you can find any info on this model #......

My microwave is now running at half power, even though the power level shows 10 on the display. I have to double the time to cook everything. I tried cutting the power to the m/w, and then turning it back...

Load test.

A simple safety test.
Place 1/2 litre of water in a glass container. Measure the temperature of the water.
Place in microwave and heat on full power for 1minute.
Measure the temperature after it has stood for 1minute.
If the temperature difference is more than 9 degrees Celcuis the magnetron is working and producing about 700Watts of heat.
If your microwave is labelled with 900 or 1000Watts. That is about right.
If the temperature is less then the magnetron is not working properly and may need replacing.

This a only a rough guide and any doubts you should consult an authorised service agent.

Microwave now takes ~2x longer to heat up and is steaming up inside

Place a 1/2 litre of water in a plastic microwaveable container. Record its temperature and place it in the microwave. Microwave on full power for 1 minute. Leave for 30 seconds and measure the temperature again.
If the temperature rise is at least 10 degrees Centigrade, the magnetron is fine.

I have Whirlpool FT338 combi microwave/oven. It takes 4 minutes to boil half a pint of water. This is a replacement model, as we returned the first one thinking it was faulty. Not sure what to do now

Measure out 1/2 litre of water and place it in a pyrex or plastic container. Take a temperature measurement. Say 15degrees Celcius.
Place microwave on full power for 1minute.
The temperature rise of the water should be at least 10 degree Celcius. Say 25degrees Celcius.
If it is, the magnetron is producing aproximately 720Watts of power and acceptable, any higher and a bonus!

Sparks from the interior of the microwave

Quiteoften this is due to grease or food particles stuck somewhere in thecavity of the oven or stuck on or behind the waveguide cover.

It can be fragile, andthe metal edges of the oven behind it can be sharp, so be careful!

The cover and the metalbehind it should be cleaned with a mild, non-ammonia cleaner.

If the cavity metal ofthe oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth andclean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply somehigh-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart,Lowe's or Builder's Square.

If your waveguide coveris burned, it will need to be replaced. It provides importantprotection for the magnetron.
