Question about Brother HL-5370DWT Laser Printer

Brother Printer prints faded spots on left side

About every 3.5" on the left side there are faded spots. I have replaced the toner and the drum, but to no avail. Not sure how to fix this. I am not a printer tech, so taking something apart to clean it will be complicated for me.

If you have replaced the toner and the issue remains it is likely residual toner left inside the printer from a previously leaking cartridge. It is most likely that the toner is on an internal roller or the printers drum unit.

Thankfully the toner is likely to work its way out overtime if you don't fancy cleaning inside your printer. You could always replace the drum unit, but this is far from guaranteed to be the cause and could be an expensive bit of troubleshooting.

SOURCE: faded print quality

If your toner saver is off and still getting faded quality means you mirrors and Scanning Lamp are not reflecting images properly.
Now if you are handy on printer then you need to take off glass

Does this printer have transfer and pickup rollers? If so many times these rollers go bad and can cause that problem. If it uses powdered toner, check for toner buildup near the ends of these rollers as well.

SOURCE: Drum cleaning function doesn't remove toner spots

Dots along the left side mean only 1 thing - time to replace the drum. I know, I've done it twice on Brother machines. You can find drums online for $130.
Forget Brother Customer Dis-Service - THEY ARE USELESS, unless of course, you consider reading from a script helpful.

Hi mike,
Clean the corona wire again using a q-tip moistened lightly with water or glass cleaner. Try carefully shaking the newtoner cartridgeback and forth to evenly distribute the toner inside the cartridge.

Wipe the scanner window (inside the machine close to where the drum rotates) clean with a soft, lint-free cloth. See page 74 of the user manual.

Power down the printer and clean all silver contacts on the toner cartridge, drum cartridge, and corresponding contacts inside the printer body.

Re-seat all components ensuring the drum cartridge is fully inserted and try printing again.

Brother 9970cdw toner

The Brother printers have a counter which will shut the printer down when the preset number of copies has been reached. You can reset the counter and it should print again. I did this 4 months ago. It bought me a little time, but my printer has begun to print a solid line down the left side of each page. I have cleaned everything that I can access to rule out smudged glass, etc. Perhaps it is just best to replace the drum or buy a new printer(much to Brother's delight and design).

Hi, I have had my CLX-2160 printer for 3 years now and its started to print with a fade on the left side only and have just under half black ink left. Is it worth changing the black toner cartridge or does...

Hello.
There are two reasons the fade happens. Running out of toner and the drum not responding correctly. The Drum is the unit that transfers the toner to the paper. if it gets damaged or dirty inconsistent print is usually the result. Try taking the toner out, shaking it and replacing it to see if it affects the print quality. if it does not price a replacement drum and toner, compare it to the price of a new printer and this will answer the second part of your question!!!
I hope this helps Regards GM

Try this.... no guarantees but I have seen this work.
1: Turn off power and remove toner/drum
2: Tape the little spring loaded lever just inside the printer on the upper left hand side in the *DOWN* position! Do not replace drum yet and...
3: Turn power on to printer and let it cycle. Status/Toner lights will come on as usual.
4: Turn off printer, remove tape from lever, replace drum and turn back on.

My printer prints but on the left side of the page the print is all faded going about one inch in. i just replaced the drum and cleaned the corona wire twice. please help

The toner powder is not evenly distributed or it sticked together, A light shaking the toner cartridge will the distribute evenly the toner. Maybe is it stock for a long period of time.

I replaced the drum and toner recently, yet half of my pages are faded when they print. It seems to be on the left side of the pages that are faded. Any suggestions

The toner section may not be seated properly in the drum unit. Try removing the toner section and putting it back in the drum section being very careful to keep the cartridge in alignment with the drum.

I have a Brother combination Fax and Printer. I just purchased a toner cartridge and replaced it according to the instructions. I have a faded streeky line down the left side of the copy. Help!!

Usually Brother printers/MFUs have separate drum and toner cartridges. There is a blue slider on the drum unit, that cleans the primary charging corona wire. Slide it back and forth to clean the wire.
Check the counter for printed copies and compare with the drum life. You may have to replace it.

Printed sheets come out with blackish/greyish lines on the right side

Use follow these cleaning steps for your printer:

1. Open the front cover of the printer and remove the drum/toner unit.
2. Gently wipe the scanner window with a soft dry cloth. The scanner
window is located on the roof of the inside of the printer.
3. On the top of the drum unit, locate the blue tab on the left side.
Slide it back and forth across the drum about 30 times.
4. Remove the toner cartridge (TN430 or TN460) from the drum unit
(DR400). To remove the toner from the drum: hold down the blue lever on the right side of the drum (DR400) and lift the toner (TN430 or TN460) off of the drum unit.
5. Inside the drum unit (DR400) there is a green roller. Wipe the green
drum roller with a dry tissue (i.e. Kleenex). You may turn this roller
by moving the gears on the far left side.
6. If the pages area gray pages or have gray vertical lines, install a
brand new toner cartridge. If pages have dots, spots, smudges or
horizontal lines, install a brand new drum unit.
OR
If you are still experiencing gray pages or gray vertical lines,
please install a brand new toner cartridge (TN430 or TN460).

Brother strongly recommends that customers do not use generic drum unitsand/or toner cartridges, or refill their Brother toner cartridge. Each Brother laser printer is designed to work at pre-set temperatures that are matched exactly to each of our individual toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work with the other to ensure quality and reliability. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability.
The Brotherlimited warranty does not apply to any problem that is caused by the useof unauthorized third party drum units, toner cartridges or toner.

Faded print on one side of page

I have a SCX-4100 Samsung, replaced the tonger cartridge, it was working fine for a few hundred sheets of printing, but after that, the left side of the page was printed very light, faded.
If I run the "Clean Drum", it will print a litter better, but still faded.
What can I do to correct this problem?
Thank you
