Itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs/DVDs missing

I have the exact same problem.

when loading i tunes the following message appears. The registry used by i tunes drivers for importing and burning cds & dvds are missing.I have tried re installing i tines but this did not work! Any ideas?

Change the registry values “ When I went to the registry entry, there was not an entry for Upper Limit so I added one, as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
I created a new “Multi String Value” within this key (very important to select Multi String Value).
I named it Upper Filters, and then double clicked it to add the GEARAspiWDM text WITH a carriage return

Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes doesn't work.

So I keep getting this message. I cannot burn CDs with i-tunes now. I've tried re-installing itunes several times. Shoul I just take a hammer to the laptop This is the message. same problem, have uninstalled, reinstalled, fixed, installed alternate CD writing software and am about to install the gear drivers - which are recommended in an old itunes fix for this problem (http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.php).

Note to anyone who suggests uninstalling, reinstalling, turning off AV or some other equally meaningless and useless activity - please put your left hand in the nearest desk draw and kick it shut as hard as you can. If you dont know the answer then dont offer up guesses - its a waste of everyones time.

This problem seems to be a driver conflict issue: when I installed powerdvd to my system my dvd drives disappeared. Microsoft website recommended deleting the upper and lower filters in the registry. This worked but then I got the itunes error message. After importing itunes filters back into the registry then the drives disappear again. There doesn't seem to be a fix when they share the same filters it the registry! I think this conflict needs to be addressed by Apple or Microsoft, unless there's a way to work around it.
