A Drill press is made to cut downwards and the bearings in the machine are designed for that purpose. There are 2 types of milling Vertical and Horizontal. Horizontal is in the picture. Vertival looks more like a Drill press except it is made to cut, therefore having bearings to take cutting forces from the side, also the Machine is much more rigid.

A Drill press cuts downwards, the cutter having the cutting edge on the tip, A milling machine can Down as well as sideways. A Drill press can also have a Moveable bed for acurate positionong of holes to be drilled, also known as indexing, Milling Machines are much ore expensive. A Lot bigger and a lot more rigid. And can machine to very tight acuracy, not uncommon to machine within 2 thousanth of an inch, normal tolerances

A drill press holds the work piece stationary to be cut, a milling machine moves the work piece to the milling cutter.

The adjustable chuck on my sons Jet JHM-610 comes off when using it in the milling function. What is the best fix for my situation? It is coming off at the taper.

You should really be using end mill tool holders for milling. The torque is too great for drill chucks. You will get better results machining with surface finish, size as well as longer tool life. Side note..take care with reassembly of drill chuck. Tapers must be dirt and burr free or chuck will have run out as well as taper lock will break and come apart on you more often. If there is damage to the tapers replace the arbor and or chuck with new.

What is diffrent between lathe machin & cnc machin

A Lathe machine turns a piece to be worked on usually along its longest axis. An operator or machinist manually moves a cutter or other tool against the rotating piece to remove and/or polish the material to a more refined state. Instead of manually, a Lathe can be controlled by computer with the speed of rotation and positioning of the cutter or other tool being done according to a program or set of numeric data in which case the Lathe would then be a CNC machine. A CNC machine can refer to any computer controlled machine which uses a set of numeric data to determine its operation which can be cutting, drilling, milling, etc.
