Theyre pretty much the same thing, but a scratch awl is better for going with the grain of the wood, and a marking knife is usually used to go against the grain

I ne to figure out the frequency code for an Excalibur AL_700LC

The correct remote transmitter for the AL-700LC is the AU-3TLC. Unfortunately that particular remote is discontinued but there is a suitable replacement, AU-3TAL3. The AU-3TAL3 only differs in case style. The remote can be purchased from the Omega Research and Development, the makers of the AL-700LC, website.
The AU-3TLC and AU-3TAL3 are trinary (3-state) remote transmitters. Programming the remotes require the cutting of traces on the circuit board. On the back side circuit board, the side without the components, there are solder pads labeled 1 through 10. Each solder pad has to tracks / traces, one above and one below. The traces on the numbered side of the solder pad is the positive side. The inside trace, no number, is the negative side. When both traces for a particular pad is cut, the state is neutral. You need to match the cut traces exactly as your original remote.
The best way I have found to cut the traces is to use a dremel type tool. You can also use a tip of a knife, a scratch awl, or any sharp pointed tool to scratch the trace away until an open is achieved. Just be careful not to cut any traces that should not be cut.

My dog ate the cord to the fan I need to know how to replace the old with a new one

Hi mlh9188

You can replace your cord that was eaten by your dog very easy.
Disassemble your fan.
Be sure to mark how the fan is assembled with an awl or sharp instrument to scratch an alignment scratch on the outside of the motor case before you disassemble it....maybe even take a picture
Once you have the fan disassembled to the point that you can get to where the wire that was chewed is connected to the fan, you will disconnect the wires from the plugs,sockets,etc...take another picture before disassembly.
Take the old cord with you down to your local hardware store, loews, homedepot, ace hardware, etc.
Tell the person in the electrical dept what happened, and he will fix you up with a new set up.
Come home install the new cord and plug...keep away from dog...

Trying to open up a Boston Acoustics VRS Micro speaker to repair a broken speaker terminal. I removed the 4 screws that hold both halves together. Now what do I do? It does not come apart...

There is rubber like sticky gasket between the two half. Its to prevent the box vibrating at some frequency. Use a knife or a flat blade screwdriver - insert into the groove and part it. Should come off except if you are not care full there will be scratch marks on the side of the box.

Dryer continues to run with door open

You need to replace the door switch, sometimes you can do this without removing the front panel, unplug the dryer and with a flat blade like a putty knife get behind the switch body and pry it out being careful not to scratch the paint, mark the wires on the switch and get a replacement

My front rotor came off when I remove the whole brake assembly that seem wrong to me is this normal I have a lot of viberation when the brake is applied

on the rotor there is an awl [scratch] mark near the wheel stud holes you put the scratch mark nearest the wheel stud that has the purple or pink paint on the end of it.
if still vibrates replace the rotors dont turn them they will shortly just vibrate worst.also the new rotors will have the mark on them and you line it up as described above

I have a Troy-Bilt #47044 Tomahawk Pro Chipper Shredder. How much can I expect to pay for replacement knives, and where can I find them? Mark

47044 is a good model number for the 12HP Tomahawk Pro Chipper. The knife kit is part number 1772231MA.

There are a few different vendors selling this knife set on Ebay.

Need to change my comfort zone heater from Cent. to farenhight

I can't say for sure but many circut boards or thermostat boards will have what is called a dip switch on the board it self. this is a small I mean tiny switch. Often you will have a set of them together so their easy to find. You will need a small awl or knife poilt to switch it as it is that small. It should be marked on the board so you can find it. Also on some if you simpley hold the temp button for fivr or ten seconds this will switch it for you but I think yours will have the dip switch. Good luck.

Getting my truck to start

Sure I just replaced mine today. Its easy, first get a scratch awl or a very small pilips screw driver, put your key in the ignition and turn it to the postion where it would be if your vehicle would be in if the motor was running, next take that sharp scratch awl or small philips screw driver and on the botom side of the switch housing pointing to about your right knee when sitting in the drivers seat you will see a small hole just under the base of the ignition switch a small hole, put that sharp scratch awl in that small hole and with one hand wiggle the key back and forth in the running positon, you will feel the awl go in a little bit and after that pull the key and the ignition out of the side of the steering column, the key and the igntion will all come out as one unit. The same thing goes for putting the new one in place. Good Luck!!
