Cynthia. The ladders Justin are referring to are not Telescoping Ladders. A telescopic ladder is one that collapses into itself like a telescope or a collapsible tumbler or "cup". Generally stands about 2-3' tall when completely collapsed and you can feed out as much of it as you need provided what you need in height isn't more than the ladders total length.
These ladders are GREAT and are typically used for inspections and cable installers. Some are rated for a fair amount of weight but I wouldn't trust it. We love using them and have been a great tool to have in the arsenal.

A telescoping ladder is a hybrid between a step ladder and an extension ladder. it has 360 degree hinges, and three parts that can be taken apart to form two step ladders. the most popular is the 'little giant'
